always rooting for the anti-hero

HUGO's POV :

"Congrats, baby bro."

"Shut the fuck up." I rolled my eyes and sat on my bed.

"Why should I shut up? My dearest brother got engaged. It calls for a celebration." Axel said with a smug look on his face.

I suppressed my urge to punch my elder brother in his face. Don't get me wrong, I love him. But just like every other brother, he can be a major royal pain in the ass.

He sat down on my bed beside me and I glared at him, "It's midnight. Go to your room and leave me alone."

"So what's your plan with Princess Sofia tomorrow?" He asked, totally ignoring what I just said.

God, please give me patience.

"What am I even supposed to do? I barely know that girl." I rolled my eyes for what feels like the hundredth time now.

"Okay but in all seriousness, why did you agree to the betrothal? I mean, you aren't the socialising, commitment-typa guy and you both apparently hate each other, right?" Axel asked, finally letting go of that smug look.

"Not like I had any choice. Three-fourth of The Parliament, Mom, Dad and heck even you voted for her. What was I supposed to do?" I rolled my eyes, a fucking again.

Jesus Christ.

"Majority voted for her because her dead biological father is said to be a Menquezian. And, let's be real, out of all the unengaged princesses of your age group, Princess Sofia is the only one who's actually decent without any controversies. I thought you'd put a good fight to stay single for a long while but you agreed, so not my fault." He said.

Jesus. I hated how right he was. Rumours of her being from Menquez have been existing ever since her mother married the King. And she also has no controversies.

The less the controversies, the better.

Innocent, little know-it-all.

"Ugh, I don't wanna marry her." I said.

"Why?" He raised a brow.

"We aren't compatible. She's nothing like the other normal princesses. And I hate it." Me and Sofia together is next to impossible.

He sighed and said, "I'm not mom so I won't give you the adult talk, advice and shit. But you agreed to it, so you gotta work it out. Think about it, maybe living your life with her won't be so bad. You both share similar interests - flying derby, archery, fencing and what not. It can't be that bad."

"Why are you thinking about me living with her? She still hasn't agreed to the betrothal and I'm pretty sure that she won't agree to it." I said, hoping that she won't agree to it.

"Uh . . . Newsflash . . She agreed to it."

"What?" I practically yelled in horror.

No way in hell she said yes.

"Uh yeah. I actually came to your room to tell you this."
