Finding The Way Back (A Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts Fanfiction)

[26] Brunch Brawl

You know...if it weren't for the fact that Puck's song essentially mocked the heck out of them, Chess would have found their head bobbing to the song as well. But despite that, the crowd roars with cheer! That means they must've pulled it off!

"Bravo! Brava! Bravissimo!" Chess hears Capuccino applaud over the crowd.

Chess can only sigh in relief as the show's finally over. Now food can stop being thrown at them-

Splat!

...

Well...for the most part. The Timber Cat's costume eye was hit with a Sunnyside egg. He snatches the egg as it falls, pulling it into the costume and eating it in one bite. 

"Hooo...~" His stomach accepts the offering, satisfied for now.

"Crushed it." says Kipo. Puck and a fellow Theaotter in a wolf costume are bowing before the crowd and Kipo approaches Capuccino.

"Oh! Save me,  save me! Kipo and her filthy humans are invading my restaurant!" The shrimp's playful banter results in a wave of laughter from the audience. 

Kipo laughs back a bit, if only tense, and tries to quip back. "Humans probably have good hygiene in real life though, right everyone?" Which resulted in Wolf getting hit by a soggy waffle.

Chess also gets hit by a boiled egg, which he caught with his foam axe like a weird skillet and took it in to eat it. "Hoooooo...~"

"That was easily the best show that I have ever seen."

Capuccino's praise resulted in Puck sharing a fist bump with an otter.

"And you," the shrimp addresses Kipo. "You had me shaking in my shell! I was transported!" 

"Why, thank you~" 

Kipo proceeds to bow, and Chess's heart explodes from the sight that he's seeing. In complete slow motion, her costume head falls right off in front of all the Mutes in the restaurant. There's really nothing he could've done about that, but it still hurt just seeing it happen.

The crustacean steps back. "It's really her!"

"Uh, no! This is...a second mask?" Kipo smiles awkwardly in her defense.

And no time was spent as the other shrimps stack themselves to remove the other costume heads. First went Wolf's head, which resulted in a wave of jeers, then Benson, and the otter, who got cheers instead. And then Chess, which the crowd reverted back to booing him.

And Chess has had it up to here with the jeering.

"RAH!" 

He throws the foam axes, packing enough force to knock someone off their feet. The tuxedo cat huffs, taking some satisfaction in that.

"So uh..." Kipo tries to change the subject. "About that Burrow..."

"You..." Capuccino leans towards the human, her large size and frame packing intimidation. "How dare you disgrace my beautiful restaurant!" she gestures to her shrimp employees. "Toss them to Harriet!"

"Uh...who's Harriet?" asks Kipo.

The crustaceans act rather than answer, the numerous forms dragging the entire group over to some back end of the restaurant that has a peculiar hole in the wall. As their shadows cast over the ocean, the water swells and what comes forth can only be described as a Mega Starfish.

"Oh...that's Harriet."

A shrimp throws Benson's costume head to the starfish, who eats it in one bite.

"Really?!" Chess hears Puck, who is watching the whole scene from somewhere else. "That head alone cost me fifty bucks!"

"RRRRHHH!"
