(SOSOSO SORRY THE SURPRISE ISN"T IN THIS CHAPTER BUT THE NEXT ONE! but it comes with a cost...)

"Father." Canada greeted in a slightly sour tone. He had an odd resent toward his father ever since he and America had gotten kicked out. Australia and New Zealand shared a look. They both knew not to get involved in their families tensions right now. "Dearest Canada, how do you feel about the team? I'd say I did quite nicely." Britain said proudly.

Canada rolled his eyes and scoffed. He never minded it until America left, but his fathers ego was almost unbearable. The way he held himself with such confidence that amounted to so much more than he actually was made him want to pummel his head into the ground and- "Its fine." Canada finally mumbled. Britain's smile tightened.

"If you aren't happy with the arrangements I could always change them." He said in a snappy tone. Canada looked to the ground and crossed his arms across his chest. "No, they're good." He said. One thing he started to notice about his father once America was that he could so simply make him feel like he amounted to nothing. Unlike America, who mastered the art of hiding his emotions, even when he couldn't, Canada could never seem to do that.

Britain smiled, happy with Canada's answer and put his arm around him. "I'd expect the captain to be at all the training sessions and not to slack off, hm? Wouldn't you?" Britain poked at him. Canada couldn't help but let a smile slip. "I suppose." Canada said with an overexaggerated sigh. Canada sometimes forgot all about his grudge for his father when he realized that he really tried. He had made a mistake that night, the night America left, and nobody would have guessed that it would end the way it did.

Canada leaned into his father slightly and looked up at the list again. "Father, why is there a blank space? Where the co-captain should be?" Canada asked. Britain smiled even wider than before. "I have a special solider to fill that spot. Just wait for their arrival." Britain said happily. Australia and New Zealand decided it would be okay to speak now, and started to pound their father with questions.

Britain answered all of their questions calmly, which ironically pissed off Canada again. He was so patient with the twins, but never with America. Maybe if he wasn't so hard on him, he'd still be here. America would've practically tackled Canada with a hug and sneaked some spiked homemade syrup from the kitchen that he made to drink in secret at night if he found out that Canada had gotten a position of leader in anything. He was always so supportive of everyone, with the biggest, most annoying heart.

Canada felt his eyes water and quickly blinked away his tears. He refused to cry in front of his father, and he had to stay strong for his siblings. Britain looked at Canada, and his face saddened. He knew exactly what he was thinking about, and it broke his heart. He never wanted to separate his boys, he hoped must realize that.

Britain had been in his position multiple times, looking through albums with a shroud of hope that America would be found, okay and unharmed. The events that took place that night hurt him. They hurt his soul. He knew that the night before America had left he had been excessive with the punishment, and when he went to apologize, he walked in on a horrifying sight. He knew he would regret not doing anything in that moment but turning around and walking away for the rest of his life. At this point, he couldn't even blame America for leaving. He barley got any sleep, and America never left his mind. It would never be enough for his forgiveness, he had come to terms with that. How would America say it? You 'fucked up' ? Yeah, Britain supposed he did.

Britain was about to finally ask Canada if they could talk, but they heard the door to the soldiers quarters open. "There he is! Canada, meet the co-captain," Britain said walking over to the figure, that bowed.

"China."

SUDDEN MOTIVATION BCUZ OF A LOT OF UNEXPECTED INTERACTION WITH THIS BOOK I LOVE COMMENTS SO MUCH-

Heheheh, you won't know why I am laughing until a couple of chapters and I love to build up suspense!! Also pls don't hate Britain he's just a lil stupid dummy and he feels guilty enough. BUT be proud cuz he's finally not in denial anymore!! Guess France forcing him to go to counseling is working...

(More on Britain's serious fuck-up later! I am gonna say tw in advance, but ill put in when needed! The next chapter is gonna be a lot of angst and fluff ((flangst)) and its gonna cover possibly triggering topics.)
