When you stepped out of the tank, you removed your oxygen mask and moved your jaw around roughly. It was strange being able to move it with no pain again so suddenly; prior to this you never really needed the tanks unless Vegeta insisted. You weren't used to how quickly they could make you feel better, and realized that must be why some saiyans felt the need to use one for every minor wound. For the first time in a long time, you felt rejuvenated and well rested. You quickly slipped on your armor you had taken off previously, your tail shaking itself dry before once again wrapping around your waist.
"Ah! All better!" The doctor said, looking up from his spot on a chair where he was reading some sort of book. He smiled at you softly as he spoke, "now if you ever fall again, don't hesitate to come see me."
You bowed your head, "Thank you sir," and the doctor laughed.
"You definitely are or were his personal guard. No one else ever thanks me." He chuckled, leading you out of the room. "You enjoy the rest of your night, but I suggest getting some rest. You'll probably be going off-world with the others tomorrow morning. It was nice meeting you, Ms. Y/N." With that, he shut the door and you made your way to the soldiers barracks.
"Hey Y/N!" You heard a familiar voice call, and you turned to see Raditz running towards you. He slapped a hand on your back and gave a smile. "Woah nice outfit! Really helps me remember you're actually a woman!" He laughed. You rolled your eyes.
    "Hey Raditz. Is Vegeta around?"
He groaned. "No, he just left. He was pissed off to all hell and me and Kakarot had to deal with it. Please don't call him back."
"Trust me, I won't be. I don't ever want to see his stupid face ever again." You took a deep breath and tried to calm down before you got worked up again.
Raditz blinked a few times as he walked alongside you to the dormitories. "That's a bit strange coming from you, especially considering how you two danced together."
You scoffed and clenched your fists at your sides. "It was all for a sick joke on the elites. He told me in front of his dad. Called me low class scum," You frowned and bared your fangs. "Then his dad basically called me a slut."
Raditz's eyes looked like they could light a fire if he stared at something hard enough. "He didn't tell me that part, just that his dad hit you."
"Yeah, funny what he leaves out, isn't it? I want nothing to do with him."
Raditz frowned slightly. "Well I don't blame you on that front but unfortunately I think he's going off world with us tomorrow."
"WHAT?" You hadn't been off-world in ages and you definitely didn't want to go with the prince.
"Yeah. Planned a whole trip for the five of us, orders of Frieza and all." You groaned and shoved your head into your hands.
"Don't worry, I won't let him bother you." Raditz growled, squeezing your shoulder slightly. "Now come on, you're sharing a room with us."
You could tell two boys lived in their dorm from the horrible mess they kept there. As soon as you walked in the door, you were met with protein wrappers on the ground, water bottles, and a pile of dirty training uniforms. Kakarot threw his arms around you when he saw you.
"Y/N!" He exclaimed, spinning you around a bit as you smiled. "Now we'll have bestie sleepovers every night! Look! We even gave you your own bed!" He grinned, motioning to a door off to the left of you. You had to admit, their dorm was bigger than you thought it would be. They had a small kitchen, a living room with a two seater couch, sofa, coffee table, a bathroom and two smaller bedrooms with two beds in each.
"Originally that was my room, but you can live there now!" Kakarot smiled. "I'll stay with Raditz."
"Are you sure? I can sleep on the couch," you said, glancing over to the stained thing. You had a lot of cleaning ahead of you if you were going to live there.
"No, we insist. We're not animals," Raditz laughed. Their room said otherwise. "A lady needs her privacy. Plus we're the ones that asked to move you in here once Vegeta told us about you getting fired and all." You frowned at that.
"Sorry," Raditz responded, scratching at his arm awkwardly.
    "It's fine."
Goku chose then to pipe up. "I'm sure you'll get it back in no time once Vegeta gets a mate! Then his dad won't care if you two are in love!"
You glanced at Raditz and the two of you began to laugh at Kakarot's statement.
"Love? Oh geez bro that's rich!" Raditz snorted.
"And from the prince?" That just made of the two of you howl louder.
"Well I think love exists..." Kakarot said, glancing out the window to the stars. "Somewhere out there at least."
"Yeah, not with the prince of all saiyans though," you chuckled. "The only thing Vegeta loves is himself." A part of you still hurt hearing yourself say that, like deep down something was still grasping at the feelings the prince might carry for you. Then you remembered his words and shoved those feelings right back down from where they came from.
"I saw how he looked at you when you danced, Y/N. I don't think he doesn't have some sort of feelings for you," Kakarot responded seriously. It sent a chill down your spine and made Raditz uneasy as well; neither of you had ever seen him serious before.
"Well, I'll let you hope for me, okay Kakarot?" You laughed, ruffling his hair. "I don't need to get my heart broken twice."
Raditz and Kakarot exchanged worried glances before looking back at you and frowning. "I'm sorry Y/N I didn't realize how much you cared-"
You cut Raditz off. "It's fine. Jokes on me, someone born of no standing, for falling for the guy I work for, huh? Sheesh. I'm gonna get to bed. Wake me up when you guys get breakfast, okay?" The two nodded as you made your way to what was now your room.
Kakarot had pushed the two beds together to make one big bed, which was a welcome surprise from your old twin mattress. You shut the door and changed into just a long sleeved body suit and placed your shoulder less armor by your bed. It was required of warriors to sleep in half ready gear in case something were to happen in the middle of the night. However, no one ever really followed it fully because who the hell wanted to sleep in all of that clunky armor? You slid a pair of f/c comfy shorts over the suit, fumbling with the drawstrings as you did so.
You sighed and glanced around as you sat down onto the bed. The servants had done their best to recreate your room as it had been: your vase of your F/C flowers lay on your nightstand, as well as the two books you had been reading. Your drawers were organized the same way, and your silly stuffed animal your mother had given you as a child lay on top of your F/C sheets on the bed. The silly F/animal was old and ragged, but it was the one thing you had with you all your life when you weren't so close to home. You thought about taking the thing with you on the trip tomorrow, but decided against it. Raditz would probably tease you for it anyway, so you'd rather push it off as long as you could.
You spread your arms out wide and sighed as you fell back into the bed, rolling to hug your stuffed plush. There came a light knock at the door just as you shut your eyes. "Come in."
Kakarot poked his head in for a second, glancing down to make sure you were dressed. When he saw you were, he smiled and stepped in. "I'm really sorry to bug you, but Raditz is-" The snore that followed his words sounded like it could wreck entire planets. Your eyes widened at sheer strength of it. "Yeah..."
"Hey yeah no problem come on," you said, standing and shoving the two beds back apart.
"Thanks Y/N! It'll only be for tonight, tomorrow I can get earplugs!" You chuckled at his aloofness and got back into bed. You reached to shut your lamp off that was on the nightstand when Kakarot gasped.
"You have a stuffie!" He yelled excitedly. You felt your face flush from embarrassment; what kind of 20 something year old still sleeps with a plushie?
"I have one too!" Kakarot yelled excitedly, running back to his new room to grab the thing. You sighed and smiled. It appears Kakarot was also that kind of 20 something year old. He ran back in moments later with a very, very well loved plush.
"Raditz makes fun of me for him all the time. I picked him up when I was on a distant planet called 'Earth.' He's a monkey!"
You couldn't help but feel that Kakarot sleeping with a hand made version of what could have resembled your ancestor felt a bit strange. Then again it hardly looked like a monkey anymore, with the fur so matted down it could have been a rat, and it was missing an eye and an ear. "Why'd you take him?"
"I didn't, he was a gift." He said softly, looking down at the toy.
"You got a gift for destroying a planet?"
Kakarot looked at the thing and gave a small smile. "No, no I didn't. When I landed my pod crashed and I knocked myself really hard on the head. It gave me amnursa-"
    "Amnesia." You corrected gently.
"-Amnesia. I was only a little kid, maybe 5 or younger, and the locals there took me in. An old man, who I called Grandpa Gohan, made him for me." You watched as Kakarot ran his hands over the ear of the plush. He was so... gentle with it. It looked sort of out of place in his large hands, but he handled it as if it were made of glass.
"...What happened next?" You asked softly, now sitting upright in your bed and holding your own doll.
"Heh... me and this lady named Bulma went on a big hunt to find the dragon balls!"
You felt your eyes gleam in the dimly lit room, "what are dragon balls?"
"They were these seven orange balls with red stars in them! The amount of stars ranged from 1-7, and when you collected all seven it summoned a huge dragon who could grant you any wish in the world!"
"Woah really? That seems pretty powerful..." you paused to run at your chin, deep in thought. "Actually I think I've heard rumors of something similar on a planet called Namek."
Kakarot's eyes shot to yours. "There is?"
You nodded.  "I think so at least. But that's just a kids bedtime story. What did you guys wish for?"
"It all doesn't matter now... we competed in martial arts tournaments too, and I met a girl called Chi-Chi." He sighed wistfully at the name. "Man she was cool. Super strong too! And fierce!"
You smiled softly. "How'd you end up back here?"
That's when his face fell, and you could see his dark eyes begin to gloss over as tears started to form. "My dad came back for me. I guess he thought Frieza was going to mass murder us and sent me away to live a normal life. When it turned out he had been wrong, he came and got me with a scouting party. Forced me to go home with him, even though at the time I didn't know who he was." He paused for a moment as he blinked back tears, his voice cracking slightly. "I did go back when I got older. Said I had a mission and really just borrowed a pod to go and see my friends. The entire planet had been destroyed."
His fists clenched at his sides as he set the monkey down on his lap. "After dad took me home, his scouting party murdered everyone there with no second thoughts of their kindness to me. I tried to collect the dragon balls to wish them all back, but when I finally found one it had turned to a solid white stone."
You got up and hugged the poor saiyan and he set his head into your shoulder and cried. You had never seen another saiyan cry before, at least under these conditions. On tough worlds you had seen a select few beg for their lives, but this was so much different. Each sob mirrored the raw emotion evident in the warrior's words.
"Kakarot it's okay, I'm sorry that happened to you." He sniffled and pulled his head away, his face a red, blotchy mess as tears and snot streamed down his face. You couldn't help but chuckle a bit at how gross it was.
"I've never told anyone that. I tried to tell Raditz and he made fun of me." He sniffled. "Why are you so nice?"
"I-I don't know. You're my friend and I feel bad when you feel bad," you replied.
    "Hey Y/N?" He asked softly.
     "What's up bud?"
"Can you call me 'Goku' from now on?"
"Is that what they called you on Earth?" He nodded at your question. "Alright, no problem Goku," you said, ruffling his hair. "If anyone asks, I'll say it's a nickname."
"Thanks Y/N. You're a good friend," he said, turning off the light as you climbed back into bed.
    "You too, Goku."
