JUNGKOOK POV

Instead of taking the fast way,
I go over the hill to the coastline and drive down to Hill with
the Ocean on my right and
rolling hills and towns on my left.

Maybe Joon is right about the car, I might pick up a Tesla for relaxing afternoon drives like this.

The windy road seems like it was made for a smooth car that can drive itself while I lean back and take in the beauty of the area.

It reminds me of home.

Growing up in Busan was easy for a young wolf.

Our pack controlled much of
the maritime traffic, adding tariffs to products that harmed the environment and acting as
an unofficial guard of the coast.

I spent all my days in the
water and my nights running through the town with my friends, getting into trouble
more often than not but always knowing they had my back.

Unfortunately, the current leaders in my pack aren't interested in preserving the
old ways.

It's become more of a
business than a community
and I rarely visit anymore.

My parents moved inland and
live on a farm but that's not
for me either.

I'm not sure what I want but as
I suck in the salty air and pass families carrying boogie boards and inflatable tubes in from a day of playing on the beaches, it's easy to imagine the kind
of life I might have someday.

Which helps me focus on the
task at hand, My goal today
is to find a stud who will give
me an alpha son to carry on
my legacy.

Granted, my legacy isn't too impressive at the moment but
I don't want to wait until I'm
too old to enjoy a child just
Becos I haven't found a mate.

I might never find a mate.

That doesn't mean I can't have the rest of the family I want.

All my wealth can't help me fall in love with someone but it sure as hell can help me create a
child who will grow up to be
just like me.

And if this Jimin guy is as consistent about producing alphas as Jin claims, there's no reason I can't use him a few times until my own little pack
is complete.

By the time I turn off the Highway and begin to maneuver through the mountains, I
realize I should've stopped for gas before I left town.

Fortunately, there's a convenience store and gas station in a small town I pass,
so I cross the road and pull in.

I'm adjusting the nozzle in my tank when I hear a familiar
voice call out to me.

"Jeon Jungkook."

"Is that you, you bastard?"

Shock is the first word that comes to mind when I see
Kim Jih standing on the
other side of the gas pump.

It's been a few years since
we last hung out but he hasn't changed much.

His stark black hair and
equally black eyes have always been the first thing you notice when you look at him but it's
his impressive height of 6'4"
that makes him memorable.

"Damn, Jih."

"You haven't changed a bit."

He pulls me into a quick hug
and pats my back.

"I heard you were working
some deals up in town.

"What brings you to these parts?"

I slide my hands into my pockets, almost self-conscious
to admit why I'm up here.

"I'm gonna check out
the Breeding Colony."

"I'm considering a surrogate."

Jih looks surprised but quickly gives me a reassuring smile.

"That's awesome, man."

"I hope it works out for you."

"Yeah, we'll see." I shrug as
if it doesn't matter either way.

But the truth is as I get closer
to meeting this Jimin person
who could potentially give me
an alpha, the desire within me
is getting stronger and stronger.

I really want this to work.

"What about you? Do you
live up here?"

Jih puts his hand on the pole between the gas pumps and leans against it.

"Yeah, my pack is adjacent to Bayside. They're good people."

"I'm sure you'll find someone great there."

The last time I was with Jih
was at the CES trade show
in Vegas a few years back.

That was a party.

"Hey, do you still work in robotics?"

He nods and reaches for his wallet. "Yeah, I'm between
gigs right now but here's my contact info, We should get
the guys together sometime."

I take his card and read it.

It's just his name, number
and email.

"You on any boards?"

"Yeah, a few." He slips his
wallet back into his pocket.

"Why do you ask?"

"I just got involved with a
start-up in Atlanta that
needs a lot of help."

"Their product is great but
the kids running it don't know what the hell they're doing."

"You might be perfect for
their board of directors."

"Atlanta, huh?" He crosses
his arms over his chest and
rocks back on his heels.

"I've actually been considering
a move, I might be interested."

"That's great." I pull out my
card and hand it to him.

"Send an email to my assistant and tell her we talked."

"She'll get you the info."

"They have a sales conference coming up in a few weeks."

"If there's any chance you
can attend, it would be a
great way to get a feel for
what they're doing."

He takes my card and stares
at it hard before slipping it
into his back pocket.

"Thanks, man."

"I really appreciate it."

After a few more minutes of chatting, Jih and I take off in different directions.

I don't know where he's going but I hope I'm on my way to meet the man who will carry
my child for me.
