"Tell me I'm not a complete sellout."
I bury my face in my hands
and hope Kai can lie well
enough to keep me from
hating myself even more
than I already do.
"Because I feel like the
worst kind of man in the
world right now."
"The kind who can't even
stick to his strongest
conviction when enough
money is put on the table."
"I know you want sympathy
right now but you're not
gonna find it here."
Kai slides a glass of lemonade across the table then sits on
the sofa beside me.
"You did the right thing."
"I would have done it for
one and so would any other omega here."
"That doesn't make me
feel better."
I peek at him between my spread fingers then drop my hands into my lap.
"I should have done it for
the regular rate because I
want to help the guy Or I
should have said no
regardless of the money
because I don't want to give
a baby to a single alpha."
"But giving up on what I
believe in as soon as the
price was high enough
makes me feel like a whore
for the first time in my life."
"Stop being such a drama queen!" Kai grabs the glass
he brought for me and
shoves it into my hand.
"If you want me to add
some vodka to that, I will."
"You still have a few weeks
of freedom."
"Enjoy them while they last."
I shake my head and take
a sip of the sweet juice.
Kai loves being in the kitchen
so whipping up a pitcher of fresh-squeezed lemonade is
an average afternoon for him.
"Everyone I like to hang out
with is either pregnant or nursing."
"I'm not gonna drink by
myself."
"Whatever." Kai tucks his
feet up under his butt and
turns to face me on the sofa.
"So tell me about this rich
Busan that got you to throw
your morals to the wind."
"Jungkook..."
Kai gasps and points his
finger at me accusingly.
"I knew it!"
"What?" I look around, wondering what he sees
that I don't.
"What's going on?"
"You like this guy."
Kai is almost as giddy as Jin
was when he first told me
about Jungkook.
"He must be hot because
you never like anyone."
Well, that's certainly not
true.
I just haven't been into an
alpha in a long time.

But that's because I've been fixed on Jin for so long that I never really noticed alphas.

to breed, getting knotted
was just part of the job,
not something I associated
