CHAPTER THIRTEEN FEELINGS THAT NEED TO BE HIDDEN
Rae stood on the balcony of the palace as Anakin and Padme talked about their plan, Rae decided that she didn't really have a say in the situation so she decided to stay clear.
A couple minutes later, Anakin walked out and stood next to Rae, she didn't turn to look at him as she focused on the horizon ahead of her.
"So, what's the plan?" Rae questioned finally turning to look at Anakin
Anakin shrugged, "I don't know, Padme thinks she can look after herself but I think otherwise, it's an ongoing argument." Anakin answered "what do you think?" Rae shrugged
"I believe that I don't really have a say." Rae shrugged
"How do you mean?" Anakin questioned
"Security is security, Anakin. Plus, it's sounds like you've got it under control." Rae chuckled lightly
"Oh yeah, totally. Got it all under control." Anakin laughed "you're great, you know?" Rae nodded, Anakin smiled slightly as he leaned in towards Rae, she mirrored his actions and their lips connected.
Rae was the first to pull away, "we shouldn't have done that." Anakin's face fell, Rae immediately regretted pulling away.
"I'm sorry." Anakin apologised
"It isn't your fault, Ani. It's just..." Rae paused
"Just, what?" Anakin questioned
"Jedi's aren't necessarily meant to fall in love." Anakin smiled and grabbed Rae's hand
"No one has to know. Come on." Anakin pulled Rae along

"This is beautiful, Ani." Rae said as they sat down in the middle of a field, it was completely silent, the only sound that could be heard were the waterfalls and the wind blowing the grass, Rae stared off into space.
"What's wrong?" Anakin asked
"I don't know." Rae chuckled
"Sure you do. You just won't tell me." Anakin stated
"You gonna use one of your Jedi mind tricks on me?" Rae joked
"They only work on the weak-minded, they don't work on other Jedi's." Anakin laughed
"Okay...do you remember when we were 9 and you said that you're gonna marry me some day?" Anakin nodded "did you mean it?" Anakin laughed "stop, you're making fun of me." Rae laughed
"No, I'd be way too frightened to tease my best friend."

"I'm just now realising that I haven't seen Padme all day." Rae said as she sat down on a small couch in her room, Anakin sat next to her.
Rae paused for a second, "you didn't answer my question, from earlier." Anakin sighed
"From the moment I met you...all those years ago. Not a day has gone by when I haven't thought about marrying you. I was only flirting with Padme to block out that feeling that I'm never gonna be able to feel but the closer I get to you, the worse it gets. The thought of not being with you—I can't breathe. I don't know if it's because you're my best friend or if I'm just deeply in love with you. I'm haunted by the kiss that you should've never given me. If you're suffering as much as I am, please tell me." Anakin sobbed, Rae shook her head.
"We can't. It's just not possible. You're my best friend, and...and what happens if something does happen between us but then something goes wrong and I lose you, I'm not ready to lose you, Ani. Not now, not ever."
"But—" Anakin started
"Anakin! We're studying to become Jedi's. If we follow our thoughts through to conclusion, it'll take us to a place we cannot go, regardless of the way we feel about each other." Rae snapped
"Then you do feel something." Anakin smirked
"I'm not gonna lose my only friend just because we have these feelings for each other." Anakin stood up
"You're asking me to be rational. Believe me, I wish that I could just wish away my feelings, but I can't. These feelings have been floating around my brain since we were 12." Anakin admitted
"I can't go through with this, Ani." Rae mentioned
"Well, you know, it wouldn't have to be that way. We could keep it a secret." Anakin suggested
"We'd be living a lie. One we couldn't keep even if we wanted to. I couldn't do that. Think about Obi-wan, the only real family I have, I can't keep something this big a secret from him." Rae stated
"You're right. It would destroy him, it would destroy us."
