CHAPTER FOURTEEN I HAVE TO GO
"Ani?" Rae called out as she spotted Anakin on the balcony, Padme followed close behind her, Padme and Rae shared a looked before turning to walk away.
"Don't go." Anakin stopped them
"We don't want to disturb you." Rae said, Anakin took a deep breath.
"Your presence is soothing." Anakin spoke calmly
"You had another nightmare last night." Padme spoke
"Jedi don't have nightmares." Anakin answered
"Ani, we heard you." Rae retorted
"I saw my mother." Anakin gave in as he turned around "she is suffering. I saw her as clearly as I see you both now." Anakin sighed deeply "she's in pain. I know I'm disobeying my mandate to protect you, Senator, but I have to go. I have to help her."
"I'll go with you." Padme and Rae spoke
"I'm sorry. I don't have a choice."

Rae looked around the place she once called home, Tattooine, as Anakin talked to Gardulla in Huttese.
"Ani? It is you!" Gardulla yelled snapping Rae out of her trance, Gardulla looked over at Rae, "Rae? It cannot be!" Rae smiled shyly "it is you!"
"Hello, Gardulla." Rae nodded
"I'm looking for my mother." Anakin said sternly
"Oh, yeah. Shmi. Uh...she's not mine no more. I sold her." Gardulla answered
"You sold her?" Anakin asked
"Years ago." Gardulla nodded "sorry, Ani, but you know, business is business, huh?" Gardulla chuckled "yeah, I sold her to a moisture farmer named, Lars. At least I think it was Lars. Believe it or not, I heard he freed her and married her! Can ya beat that, eh?" Anakin looked down sadly
"Do you know where they are now?" Anakin asked
"Ooh, long way from here. Someplace over on the other side of Mos Eisley, I think." Gardulla responded
"I'd like to know." Anakin spoke sternly
"Absolutely! Let's go look at my records." Gardulla said pulling Anakin away, Rae and Padme followed.

"Oh, hello. How might I be of service? I am C—"
"3PO?" Anakin and Rae questioned together cutting off the robot, C3PO gasped.
"The makers! Oh, Master Ani and Rae! I knew you would return." C3PO said before turning towards Padme "I knew it! Miss Padme."
"Hello, 3PO." Padme greeted
"Bless my circuits! I'm so pleased to see you all."
"I've come to see my mother." Anakin cut to the chase
"Oh, I think perhaps we'd better go indoors." C3PO said before leading them inside "Master Owen, might I present three most important visitors."
"I'm Anakin Skywalker." Anakin greeted
"Owen Lars. Uh, this is my girlfriend, Beru." Owen introduced
"I'm Padme." Padme greeted kindly
"Rae. Rae Kenobi." Rae smiled
"I guess I'm your stepbrother. I had a feeling you might show up someday." Owen said awkwardly
"Is my mother here?" Anakin asked
"No. She's not." An unfamiliar voice spoke "Cliegg Lars." He introduced himself "Shmi is my wife. We should go inside. We have a lot to talk about."

"It was just before dawn. They came out of nowhere. A hunting party of Tusken Raiders. Your mother had gone out early, like she always did, to pick mushrooms that grow on the vaporators. From the tracks, she was about halfway home...when they took her." Cliegg sighed "those Tuskens walked like men, but they're vicious, mindless monsters. Thirty of us went out after her. Four of us came back. I'd be out there with them, but after I lost my leg, I just couldn't ride anymore until I heal. I don't wanna give up on her but she's been gone a month. There's little hope she's lasted this long." Cliegg explained, Anakin stood up quickly.
"Where are you going?" Owen asked
"To find my mother." Anakin replied instantly
"Your mother's dead, son. Accept it." Cliegg stated as Rae looked at her best friend with sympathy.
