"So which elements are you a Deviant in and on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your proficiency?"

It's probably not the best idea to say I'm a Deviant in every element, right? Yeah. Might as well tone it down a bit.

"I'm a Sound Deviant and an Internal variant of the Lightning Deviant. In terms of general skill, I'd put Sound at a six and Lightning at an eight.

In matters of application however, Sound is a seven and Lightning is a nine."

Scribbling away at her clipboard, Melody had a kind of look in her eyes that reminded me of a child. Pure curiosity.

"Now for this next portion of the practical assessment, I will need you to demonstrate exemplary knowledge in Deviant magic in any way possible."

Any way possible...

"Does that mean I can even use a spell if I have to?"

She nodded, confirming my thoughts. "We consider this portion of the Theory-level exam a part of the practical assessment because of how examinees demonstrate exemplary knowledge."

Hm... Alright, then.

"I guess that means I'll be doing twice as much? One for each Deviant?" I asked.

"Yes, that's correct. As you are a Deviant in more than one element, this exam requires you to demonstrate an equal or greater level of knowledge among each Deviant."

Interesting. Then I guess I'll just use Impulse and Soundwave.

I took a deep breath, feeling the mana around me.

Focusing on my magic, I willed Lightning mana throughout my body.

The feeling of destructive power entered my nerves and muscles and the world slowed down as the hair on my body stood on end.

[Thunderclap Impulse]

"This spell uses my body as the catalyst. As Lightning mana runs through my nerves, nearly all the speed-based attributes I use in a fight are enhanced.

Movement, reaction, spells, combat, you name it. If you can find a way to do it faster, this spell can make it even faster."

Melody marveled at the spell and scribbled furiously at her clipboard, her eyes shooting back up occasionally to look at me again.

Releasing the spell, I exhaled deeply.

"I have to admit though, something like that is pretty taxing on the body. It's manageable with the proper body, but you can also pass by with immense control to make up for a weak constitution.

A Sound spell is a lot easier to use, but because of that, it's also harder to work with. Which is why..."

Willing Earth mana in the air, I clenched my fist and a wall of rock about the height of myself shot up.

"It's better to refine the element's form and use it as a weapon."

I raised my hand and faced my palm toward the wall of rock, willing Sound mana.

Convert the mana from passive to active and multiply the destructive force by dividing it into short consecutive bursts.

[Soundwave]

"Ahem! Thank you for your time, Mr. Leywin. I'm sure this is no surprise, but you are permitted access to all advanced theory-level books in the Xyrus Library.

Though this process would normally take longer, I'm sure you've noticed our lack of patronage today.

Here are copies of your written exam results, in addition to your practical exam notes and summaries. Please feel free to keep them and take a closer look if you wish."
