Back to present:

Peridot stayed standing next to us while we ate. It was uncomfortable at first but the food was so good that I soon forgot about him. What brought me back to Earth however was how Bartholomew couldn't stop staring at me. Therefore I started staring at him too and seeing me look at him made Bartholomew smile:

"Do you want me to feed you?"

I almost choked and Peridot handed me a glass of water:

"Thank you."

Seeing me all flustered, Bartholomew laughed:

"I never saw you so shy before. It would be very hard making you shy in the past."

I suddenly felt irritated:

"Well, people change."

Bartholomew suddenly stood up and that made me jump. He then slowly walked up to my chair and bent towards my face with a gentle smile:

"Did that hurt you?"

I pinched my lips and Bartholomew kneeled down in front of me:

"Not remembering must be frustrating for you. If you have any questions you can always ask me.

-I'm sorry. It's just... I have no idea how to act around you. You seem to know me so well but I have no idea who you are. And I don't even know who I am."

Bartholomew took my hand and started stroking it gently:

"You can act however you want around me and I will answer all your questions. You don't have to rush. We have all the time in the world. And you don't have to be the same as before either. I will love you no matter who you are."

I blushed immediately but this time Bartholomew didn't make fun of me. I had no idea how to act around him because he looked at me as if I was the only person on Earth worthy to breathe. As if I was his whole existence and as if I couldn't do anything wrong. But I had no memories of him and the gap was unsettling. I had no idea how my past self could have looked at him without going shy. His eyes were so intense that he looked ready to die for me any second. Wouldn't that make anyone flustered?

"Why don't we go for a little walk in the garden? Some fresh air could do you good."

I nodded and Bartholomew lifted me as usual. I was starting to get used to this and I knew he wouldn't let me down even if I asked. He did however let me walk once in the garden. But just to make sure I wouldn't collapse, he grabbed my arm and helped me walk:

"I am not terminally ill. I won't collapse that easily.

-You were in a coma for three days. I am not taking chances."

I started staring at him and that made Bartholomew blush which was new. Was he just playing it cool? Was he just as flustered as me? That I could work with.

"What is it? Am I so handsome that you can't stop looking?

-No.

-That was harsh."

I laughed:

"I was wondering what happened to me to be in a coma for three days."

I felt Bartholomew's hand twitch:

"You saved me."

I opened wide eyes:

"I saved you?

-Yes. And you shouldn't have. If you hadn't forgotten everything, I would have yelled at you as soon as you woke up. I was really mad, you know. Never again, promise me that you'll never do it again."

He stopped walking and looked straight into my eyes, waiting for me to say something.

"I promise."

Bartholomew sighed and his shoulders finally relaxed. But I still felt bad:

"I am sorry."

Bartholomew frowned.

"You must have been very worried about me.

-I was. I thought I would go crazy seeing you in that bed. I..."

I touched his cheek and Bartholomew froze.

"I am sorry."

He put his hand on mine and brought it to his lips before kissing my hand gently. He didn't let go and started brushing his face against my hand, his eyes closed. When he opened his eyes, they were the same unbearably dark eyes and I felt my stomach twitch, pulling back my hand suddenly.

"Let's go."

I continued walking and Bartholomew followed me with a chuckle. We walked around the garden and considering how big the mansion was, the garden was reasonably big. It took us half an hour just to get to a bench and Bartholomew helped me sit with a worried look:

"You look a bit pale. Are you okay? Should I carry you back?"

I pulled him to sit next to me:

"I'm fine. Don't worry."

We sat for a few seconds watching the flowers silently.

"Did I like flowers?

-Not really. You never understood why people loved flowers so much but deep down you loved receiving them. Your favorite ones were roses but you didn't dare admit it because you thought it was too basic. Apart from roses, you had a very weird taste in flowers.

-Did you buy me flowers often?"

Bartholomew hesitated for some reason.

"Not enough. I should have bought you flowers every single day.

-That's a bit excessive."

Bartholomew laughed:

"I understand why you would think so."

We didn't stay much longer because Bartholomew insisted that I would catch a cold and he carried me back to my room before bringing me hot chocolate.

"I am sorry but I have to leave you for a few hours.

-That's okay. Do you need to go to work?

-Yes. They have been calling me nonstop despite me telling them to leave me alone. I...

-Don't be angry at them. They are just doing their job. They must really need you if they are calling."

He kissed my forehead with a smile:

"If you say so then I won't be angry."

He suddenly stopped:

"Oh, sorry. Are the kisses too much?"

I shook my head:

"It's okay."

Bartholomew smiled and kissed me again which made me jump:

"You don't have to exaggerate either."

This made him laugh and he grabbed his jacket before saying:

"I will be back as soon as possible. If you need anything ring this bell and Peridot will come to you. Will you be okay?

-Of course."
