Lorenzo:

God why did you have to put me into this situation. I am so conflicted. It's already bad enough Sofia tricked me into taking her to a pet store after her classes were done. Now I don't know what I am gonna do or say at this moment. "Sophia. I really don't know either. What is father and mom going to say about Kalani and Kade coming? They don't know them." Sophia pouts. "So now they can finally meet her!"

I almost smile, I can't deal with my sister and her words sometimes. "Sophia. You just met her and her dog." She bends down and pets Kade. "Yes, but you haven't." My eyebrows furrow from confusion. "How did you know that?" She blinks at me. "Enzo, I know I am ten years old. But I'm not stupid. You don't look or talk to anyone like the way you talk to her. You especially don't give any girls attention either." I almost whine from how smart my sister is. Damn it.

From the corner of my eye, I see Kalani blush a bit and I try my best to stop myself from smiling from ear to ear like a creep. "Why don't we discuss this while we check out? We have been standing in this aisle for a long time now." I nod in agreement and we all make our way to the cash registers. I line up after Kalani like a gentlemen I am.

I'm a kiss ass I know.

"Do you think they will give me a cage and food for my new hamster, Enzo?" I have to think about that. "I actually don't know sis. I've never had a pet either so I do not know how this goes." I see Kalani turn around, I am assuming our conversation caught her attention. "Yes, I believe they should. If anything, they should recommend getting them if it does not already come with your new pet." Both my sister and I leave our gaze maybe a little too long on her. "Oh um. Sorry I didn't mean to butt into your conversation. How rude of me." I was going to reassure her, and say she was actually being helpful, but Sophia manages to beat me to it.

"No thank you for your help Kalani!" She smiles sweetly at my sister and my heart flutters for the first time in a long time. I have never felt this way about someone since...

No Lorenzo. Don't start thinking about that bitch before you let your guard down any more than you already have. Kalani is not worth it.

But what if she is worth it? I can't help how I feel. As much as I want to feel nothing for this woman. I'm scared I feel like this. I'm scared to have feelings for someone again. I'm scared to potentially love someone again... I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't realize Sophia was dragging me to the register since Kalani somehow already finished.

Genius she only had a few bags of treats and a toy, dumbass. You are as smart as Patrick from SpongeBob.

She puts up the box containing her new pet onto the counter. "Would you like to purchase a cage and food needed for your new wonderful pet?" I roll my eyes. It's a damn rodent. I simply nod. I want to just leave. At least I have successfully avoided Sophia's question. I watch as the employee bags the food, cage, and stupid rat in bags. But wait... where is Kalani? I look up to try and find her. A few moments pass as I scan the store looking for her small frame and dog. I sigh when I realize she probably left. Even if I was to say yes to Sophia about Kalani and Kade coming over for our family dinner. It seems like she didn't want to go anyway.

"Hello? Sir? Are you ready to make your purchase?" I snap out of my roaming mind and I nod once again. "Where did she go?" I hear little Sophia's voice call out. I feel bad now. She really wanted her to come. "She probably left sis. It's okay. Maybe we will see her one day again." She lowers her head in disappointment. Sophia is the only girl that can make me fall to my knees from guilt and love. Well, besides my mom. "Come on Sof. We already got your ro-" I stop my mouth from blurting out the rest of my sentence.

She is sad Lorenzo. Don't be a jerk and make it worse.

"Your hamster. Let's go home. I need your help for setting up dinner." Do I actually need my ten year old sister's help with setting up a dinner? No, I am perfectly capable of doing it by myself, but I can't let her be all sad. Especially in front of father, so I need to use this opportunity to hopefully cheer her up.

I take her hand after paying for her stuff and we walk outside. Her sad expression stays glued to her face. "Wait!" I hear a familiar voice call out. Sophia and I both turn around in unison and I see Kalani jogging to us with Kade and her bags. "I went back and got you a hamster wheel since your new pet likes to run a lot." She gives a bag to Sophia with a beautiful smile. I look at my sister's face and her sad expression turned into the biggest smile I have ever seen. "Thank you! I thought you left?!" Sophia says excitedly and hugs Kalani, wrapping her little arms around her waist.

"No I didn't, but I still would not leave you two without at least saying goodbye." She says while she hugs my little Sophia back. Once that sentence leaves Kalani's mouth, I realized something. She reminds me so much like my mother. Both so sweet and caring. Even too much for their own good. "What you did for my little sister is very thoughtful. Thank you." I don't even know what a hamster wheel looks like honestly. She smiles. "No problem." She starts walking to her car, causing me and Sophia to follow behind her. I didn't even notice until now but I love her outfit. This girl is talented, caring, beautiful, and has good style? She better not be taken.

I honestly could care less if she did. I would kill the motherfucker without hesitation.

"So Enzo! Can she come over?!" I sigh and think of the words to let her down easily, but then I remembered that sad face she held in the store. "Uh... sure." I say very hesitantly. I see Sophia jump from joy and excitement. "Thank you! Thank you Enzo!"

You are as dumb as Patrick, and you are not capable of saying a two letter word? It's called no.

As much as I should have said that two letter word. I could not stand to see her mope around the house and go to sleep mad at me. "Are you sure Lorenzo? I don't want to intrude." I shake my head. "No you won't be. It would be nice if you to join us if you aren't busy?" I'm trying to kiss her ass right now so she isn't mad at me from what happened yesterday.

"No I'm free." She opens the backseat of her car and allows her dog to jump in. She shuts the door and she turns back to us. "How should I dress?" I freeze up.

How do you tell a girl to dress hot but fancy because you have a Mafia family who always overdresses for the littlest things like a family dinner?

"Dress nice and formal." Those were not the words going on in my head, but they will do. She nods and says her goodbyes to Sofia. "I'll see you later Lorenzo." I give her a nod. "See you soon, love." I flash her a smirk and turn away with the bag from Kalani and the one containing the rat. "Let's go Sophia." She skips happily to the car and I follow after her. I can't help but wonder...

What am I getting myself into tonight?
