GIO

I peered through the window of my mansion's fifth floor, watching as Alfonso escorted Sophie into the building. Her round belly had swelled to a magnificent size, and I couldn't help but wonder how she managed the weight and strain on her back and legs.

Shaking off the thought, I shrugged my shoulders and focused on the evening ahead. My mother was scheduled to arrive at the villa for a family dinner, and it seemed like the perfect occasion to introduce her to Sophie and cut to the chase. After all, I was finally granting her desire for grandchildren.

"Gio?" Sophie's warm voice greeted me as she entered my bedroom.

"Good day, Sophie. Did you receive my message?" I asked.

"Yes, I did. So?" she replied, crossing her arms.

"You'll be joining us for dinner tonight," I stated.

"Oh no, I won't," she defiantly retorted.

"Excuse me, Strega, but I'm the one giving the orders around here."

"That doesn't mean you can tell me what to do, Gio. You have no right to control me. And how exactly do you plan to introduce me?" she exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air.

"That's for me to decide. Now, go to your room and get ready. Dinner is at seven-thirty p.m. I had Rosa pick out some outfits for you to choose from," I informed her, observing as her eyebrows raised.

"You must be kidding me," she muttered as she stormed out of the room.

Her lavender scent lingered in the air.

I ran my fingers through my hair, knowing that this night was going to be a long one.

Two hours later, I strode into the dining room to welcome my mother.

"Mama, you are quite early, not that I am complaining," I said with a curt smile as I embraced her.

"È così che saluti tua mamma? Is that how you greet your mother?" she replied.

"Buon giorno mamma, spero che il viaggio alla villa non ti abbia annoiato a morte." Good day mama, I hope the journey to the villa didn't bore you to death. I corrected myself.

"It did, Gio, the hours I spent coming could have been valuable at the boutique," she said with her hands crossed. "But since it meant coming to see il mio bambino, then it wasn't so bad," she added with a smile.

"Where is Rosa?" she asked as she looked around.

"She'll be with us soon, I have a surprise for you, Mama," I said as I took her hand and led her to the chair at the dining table.

"I'm too old for surprises, il mio bambino," she said as she stared into my eyes."Trust me, Mama, you're not too old for this one," I said with a smile.

I heard the click of heels on the stairs, and at that moment, I turned at the same time as my mother. The sight before me was breathtaking.

Sophie stood there in an emerald green dress, wearing a diamond necklace that was perfect for her and her alone. Her hair was elegantly styled in a bun. In that instant, I couldn't help but wonder how she would look without any clothing at all. The thought excited me, and I discreetly adjusted my trousers, ensuring my mother wouldn't notice anything.

But my mom remained fixated on Sophie. She didn't budge.
"Mama?" I called her, but there was no answer.

"Mama, are you okay?" I asked.
She stared at me as if she had seen a ghost and then turned back to look at Sophie.

"Lina? I thought you were...? Cos'è, mi stai facendo uno scherzo, Gio?" she exclaimed. (Lina? I thought you were...? What is this, are you playing a prank on me, Gio?)
"I don't understand, Mama," I said, utterly confused as Sophie and I locked eyes.

"Where is Rosa? Rosa?" My mom shouted hysterically as she stood up from her chair. At that moment, Rosa entered the room and gasped as she saw Sophie, who was already coming down the stairs, equally confused.

"Lina sei tu?" (Is that you, Lina?) I watched Rosa as she walked over to meet Sophie, tears streaming down her face, while my mom stood there in a state of utter disbelief.

"Figlia mia, sei finalmente tornata da me?" Rosa said. "My daughter, are you finally back to me?"

"Daughter?" I thought, completely bewildered by the situation. What was going on?
