Nyx didn't say anything, nor did she take her steeled gaze away from the pixie before her. She didn't flinch as Hazeer's threat of impalement either. In fact, she appeared to be ignoring the spear entirely. She was resilient, but she wouldn't risk lives for something so...trivial. He just needed to find where to apply pressure. Everyone had a weakness. He just had to locate hers.

And for a creature with powers such as his, he really doubted it would be much of a challenge at all.

"I don't know what you are talking about," she shot back furiously.

Varnas sighed dramatically and gave Hazeer a sidelong glance. His lieutenant responded accordingly, forcing the weapon dangerously closer to the scout. "Now, let's not go on lying to each other, little fairy. You know about the multi-talented, which is honestly quite a shock since Starlight made it very clear that Fairy Hollow would never know about them." Or us. "So why don't we try this again before one of my friends decides to set something else on fire?"

A flutter of wings to his left. He caught a glimpse of gold circling on both sides and felt Hanna tensing to follow the movement. The rest of the scout guild had arrived. Now it was time to show their real power.

"I don't think so," Nyx retorted. "And if I were you, I'd be more concerned about what my troop will do if you don't put the spear down and get out before we are forced to escort you." Fairies are going to get hurt, her mind buzzed with anticipation. I have to get these...can I even call them fairies?...out of here before they cause any more of a scene. Why fire though? Out of everything the Hollow has seen, why must it be fire again?

Varnas sneered. "Good luck with that."

"We only want the sparrowman," Hazeer interrupted grimly. "And to take back what is rightfully ours. We have no desire to fight you or your species. Stand down and we can work this out civilly."

"There's no 'civil' here," Di interjected, emerging from the shadows to their right, a sword already unsheathed and ready to attack. "You come in here, cause chaos, and then just waltz around like you have any right to do that? Who do you think you are, anyway?"

She was pretending to be brave as well, but he knew the truth.

"I'm a pixie," Varnas snapped. "And you pathetic creatures cannot tell me what I can or cannot do! One of you stole what was rightfully ours--what is rightfully mine--and by everything you swear by, I am going to get it back so don't even think about standing in my way!"

"Oh, really? You wanna test that theory?" Fury countered.

"You're outnumbered," Chase pointed out, appearing from the opposite shadows. "And in unfamiliar territory. Is this really how you want this fight to play out? Because I can assure you, this is not going to end the way you are hoping."

"And I don't know a lot about pixies," Nyx cut back in. Well, actually, she did, Varnas knew that without bothering to get close, but she wasn't going to give any of them the satisfaction of knowing how, especially not if what she had read about their abilities was true (which it was, for the record), "but I know they don't just show up out of the blue without a very good reason, especially when they are supposed to be dead. What do you want with our Protector?"

For someone whose mind was quite easy to penetrate, she was doing a noble job of keeping his identity hidden. But she did not hide everything. He could still see things; a building; a structure far too large to belong to a fairy--and something else

She was telling the truth. He's not here.

"You call him a protector?" Varnas sneered. "How naive. You want the truth, Nyx? Do you even know how your multi-talented guild came to be?'
