Chapter 22: Potential and Elements
In the Free Guild's magic division building, the magic division has a basement where magic tests are conducted. The whole floor of the basement itself is where the room magic tests are held.
Now, other than the already 12 members of the Magic Division using the basement of the Magic Division Building for their magic experiments, it would finally fulfill its other purpose. A place to conduct the entrance examinations for applicants of the Free Guild's magic division.
For the 1st ever magic test that would be conducted for the 1st ever applicant of the magic division after it's foundation years ago, all of the current 12 members of the Magic Subdivision are present.
Other than the president of the magic division former court magician Wizard Archibald who would personally accompany the applicant while overseeing the results close and two other assistants for carrying the tools for testing Rinku's magic, the others like Amisha would be in the viewing panel that was elevated from the testing field in the basement and separated with magic reinforce clear glass.
The viewers from the panel would be able to hear what is happening in the testing field with the help of a magic listening device that was created by the Free Guild's Founder Yuuki Kagurazaka with the help some fellow otherworlders and a group of skilled mages from this world including the former court magician Wizard Archibald himself.
Speaking of the Free Guild founder, Amisha and the other members of the magic subdivision are currently on the viewer panel with the said founder of the Free Guild.
Even though they were reassured by Yuuki Kagurazaka to be calm and not mind his presence in the viewing panel, they thought that it was impossible to do what he requested.
He was after all the boss of their boss, the highest-ranking member of the organization that they were a part of. Trying to ignore his presence was also impossible, The Founder of the Free Guild Yuuki Kagurazaka has such a unique feeling and charisma that made such a thing as ignoring him impossible.
They were crying inside their minds on the fact that their President invited the Free Guild Founder. But they know that the founder can't reject the invitation since this event is particularly important to them.
It was a momentous step for both the Free Guild and the Magic Division to witness the first-ever applicant for the Magic Division. All of the members were obligated to watch while the founder needed to be here.
Eventually, when the two current assistants of Wizard Archibald finish placing the magic tools needed for the magic test that would be held, Wizard Archibald thinks that everything should start now.
He ordered one of the current assistants to call the applicant. A few minutes later, the applicant entered the testing field accompanied by the assistant.
The mages in the viewing panel were intrigued. The applicant is on the short side. Some of them are already guessing if their 1st applicant isn't human while there are so few of them that have guessed that their applicant belongs to the young age category.
Meanwhile, on the testing field, Archibald said to Rinku.
" Feel free to declare when you are ready for the various tests to be conducted, child. "
Taking the hood off of his robes to his head, Rinku glanced at the President of the Magic Division and nodded his head.
[ Good Luck Master. ]
{ Let's see how the mages of this world would test the magic potential and talents of individuals. }
Rinku doesn't have a clue about how the magic test would be conducted. He can also feel the fluctuations of his heart being faster than normal. Despite that, Rinku wouldn't let his nervousness faze him and he would face this test bravely.
" Good. The first test would see your potential in magic... "
Archibald urged Rinku to walk towards one of the ivory pillar stands where there was a clear orb placed on top of it.
" Place your hands in the orb and the orb will light up if you have any talent in magic. If you don't have any talent, it won't light up. This would be the very first step that determines your potential as a magician."
He placed his hands on the orb, and upon immediately touching it, the orb lit up.
Archibald wasn't surprised by the result. Earlier, Amisha had told him that Rinku introduced himself as a mage. He can do magic and has some experience.
But it was surprising since it would usually take time for the magic potential detectors to be lit up for normal people with average potential. If the orb immediately lit up upon Rinku touching it, he has great potential in magic. Now, Archibald was filled with more anticipation different from earlier when he was doing this for the sake of formality and his responsibility.
Archibald didn't expect much from Rinku earlier even though he was a half-elf since it was uncertain which side of his parents Rinku had inherited his magic talent.
Now that he shows good potential in magic, the elf bloodline of Rinku has won over his body.
" Good. We would go to the next stand. Child, you also need to place your hand on the next orb. This time, we will test your affinity for the elements of magic. "
Upon touching the 2nd orb on the 2nd pillar stand, the 2 mages assisting Wizard Archibald exclaimed.
" That's! "
" .. No way.. "
Upon touching the 2nd orb, the elements of magic affinity that a person who touched the orb would be revealed. Those elements have corresponding colors.
Red for Fire
Orange for Earth
Yellow for Light
Green for Wind
Cyan for Space
Blue for Water
Violet for Darkness
On the 2nd orb that was being touched by Rinku right now, there are a total of 8 colors being revealed.
On the viewer's panel, even the people there have various reactions and exclamations upon seeing the result. Even the Founder of Free Guild Yuuki Kagurazaka. Previously, he was calmly sitting on his chair as he observed the results but now he was standing and decided to step closer to the glass separating the testing field and viewers panel.
How could he not just sit on his chair, when the other passenger in his body was urging him to get a closer look at the result?
While Yuuki was observing what was happening in the testing field, he grimaced when he saw Wizard Archibald looking at Rinku like he was the most precious jewel in the world.
It seems that Wizard Archibald is planning to recruit an applicant Rinku to become his apprentice.
But before planning to recruit the young mage, Archibald was planning to see the end of the test. Looking at Rinku, he says.
" Child, you have shown great potential in magic. At this rate, you have already been qualified to enter the Magic Division of Free Guild. Do you still wish to proceed to the 3rd step? "
Upon hearing the question, Rinku nodded his head. The 1st 2 tests are interesting. He was curious about the 3rd one and the following tests until the last one. Caster Avicebron also wanted to see it.
" Very well, let's proceed. The 1st and 2nd tests are just an initial test. It was a test for potential mages that haven't yet managed to grasp magic. The 3rd test and the following test are for those who have experience in magic and the goal was to test the mage's proficiency and knowledge of magic. "
With a wave of hand from Archibald, the previous two pillar stands with the orbs disappeared. Now there were 8 practice dummies on the testing field.
While Rinku was looking at the 8 dummies in interest, Archibald declared.
" Show us what all of you got child. "
Wizard Archibald doesn't know but he would regret those words when Rinku ends up destroying the 8 magic-refined practice dummies.
