Hurts, Emeli Sandé.

Beam woke up with him lying on a bed in another room. And the only way Beam recognized that it was a different room was because of its not so well-lit surroundings. Emergency room was always well-lit at all times.

He could see the figure of the taller guy sitting in the corner of the room, probably asleep as he was sitting still with barely any movement.

A part of Beam wanted to go back to sleep. But his mind was wide awake and full of anxiousness Beam did not know could exist.

"You woke up?" Forth suddenly asked, breaking the stillness in the air.

Beam hummed in reply, "Mn."

"Do you need anything?"

"Do we have some water?" Beam asked groggily. His throat felt scratchy from sleep.

He was not sure how long since he had been out. But it seemed like some time had passed.

He heard some movements coming from the corner of the room, indicating that the other was making a move. Then a click was heard, before the light on the table beside his bed was lit up.

Forth immediately pour some water from the jug on the same table into one of the cups on the tray right next to it. He even helped Beam to sit up.

The tanned guy passed the cup, as he informed: "Your friend came back a few hours ago. It seems like his boyfriend got sick so he needed to leave. He moved you to the ward so you can sleep more comfortably."

Beam eyed the tanned guy. The said guy seemed even more worn out than he previously was. Maybe he could not sleep properly here.

"You can go home too, Forth. Get some sleep." Beam told him, eyeing him some more as the other took the cup to put it away.

Forth insisted as he shrugged it off: "It's alright. I can stay."

Beam bit down his bottom lip quietly.

"Do you want to sleep some more? It's still four in the morning. You can sleep for a few more hours before I drive you back." Forth asked.

Beam shook his head. "I will have my shift at seven, so there's no need for you to stay for another three hours. I am fine."

"I insist." Forth argued. "They gave you sick leave for a few days. You just had a car accident, Beam. Besides, you have more questions for me, right?"

Beam decided to stay quiet.

He could deny that assumption. He indeed had a lot of questions for the guy. If it was another different time, maybe he had even more questions. But being able to see Forth sitting in front of him, Beam suddenly felt like all of his questions had escaped his mind.

So he looked down on his fingers, fidgeting on them mindlessly.

"Bee," Forth called out softly. The familiar yet distant gentleness could be heard laced into the familiar nickname.

He then continued: "For what happened eight years ago, I'm really sorry."

"I just want you to know that I really wanted to come back at that time. But dad got really sick, and I couldn't bring myself to leave my mom alone handling all that in a foreign country." Forth explained carefully.

It was as if he was really afraid that something that had already happened eight years ago would come back and hurt the both of them.

Seeing how Beam did not respond with anything, he apologized again: "I apologize to you, Bee. I'm sorry."

"What's there to apologize for? It's been years, Forth. Besides, I figured something must've happened to your family when none of your parents came." Beam monotonously said.

He looked up at the tanned guy in all calmness he could muster: "You, out of anyone, have not a single time wrong me. No?"

Beam chuckled at himself. He found his reality too funny. Here was Forth, who did everything right, apologizing for the possibility of hurting him that one time eight years ago. While his boyfriend, who had hurt him multiple times was still nowhere to be seen.

He also found it ridiculous of how many times Perm had hurt him in the span of three years, when he knew Forth and his family since he was five and none of them had even accidentally caused him any pain. It was strange how someone could hurt someone else so many times in such a short span of time.

"So, you've become a doctor, huh?" Forth broke the silence. He got a gentle soft smile on his lips.

Beam looked down on his fingers. "Mn. It was hard during university, but it's all worth it."

Forth nodded. "Fair enough."

"So, how's your life, Forth? Come back for good?" Beam asked, looking up to his childhood friend.

Forth smiled as he turned his eyes towards his hands that were laid on the side of the hospital bed. He nodded softly, twice.

"I guess you can say it's alright. My request to transfer to Bangkok got approved half a year ago."

Beam nodded at the explanation. "And you did not remember to tell me beforehand?"

Forth chuckled softly. Beam did not realize how long it had been since the last time he heard that coming from Forth.

"I wanted to surprise you. But aunty Ji told me you've never come back home since that day. So I don't know how to contact you." Forth smiled thinly as he explained more.

Beam blinked. That explained it. He had not gone home for eight years. He always found himself stuck in the busy city of Bangkok. It was not a surprise if Forth could not find him even after a month being here.

"I tried to get your last contact information from J University, but they couldn't give out any personal information out of privacy concerns. I was surprised to see you last night. Though I kind of wished we could meet up in a more... safe occasion." Forth explained further.

Beam scoffed at the last sentence. He surely did. Considering Forth was probably one of the first who was there at the scene, seeing his own childhood friend in the totaled car must not be the nicest feeling.

"So how's your life, aside from work?" Forth asked casually, looking up straight into Beam's eyes this time.

Beam blinked.

Just when he was about to give a reply, the door leading to that ward room was swung open by none other than Perm Jirawan, Beam's boyfriend.
