Chapter 15

---Caleb's POV---

I watched the hand go around the clock at its own paste and it nearly drove me mad. I needed it to be a decent time before I went knocking on Xia's door; it was only common courtesy. My hands began tapping the arm of the chair wishing the time would fly faster.

I began counting down the time as it approached 7:00 am. As it struck the exact hour I sprung from the chair and headed through the door. Walking down the hallway I couldn't help but peaked into the twin's room. Only Caleb was sleeping. Susan sat up in her bed and her big brown eyes stared over at me.

"Hello Father."

"Hey sweetheart, you're up early, is everything alright?"

She nodded with a smile. "Uh-huh." I turned to leave when she caught me at the last minute. "Father?"

"Yeah . . .?"

"Am I still you're little princess . . .?" My heart nearly broke as I watched her fiddle with the cover sheet on her bed while she waited for my reply. How could she even ask that? No matter what happened she would always be my little princess and I wouldn't let anything change that. I could see her body tense as she waited for me to reply.

"Susan, no matter what happens you will always be my little princess. Just remember that."

She looked up at me with a shy smile. "Okay . . .I love you daddy."

Daddy? For some reason that name had a certain feel to it. I couldn't help but smile. "I love you too sweetheart."

I close the door after that and continued down the hall. My poor little girl. She doubted that she would still be precious to me because of that disgusting creature! I slammed my fist into the wall close by as I imagine the distant look in my Suzie's eyes and the uncertainty in her tone as she asked me that question. If I could only get close to him, if only for a second; I would make the most of it.

As I continued walking and heard the warning bell that signified the walking up time of all the workers. I approached Xia's door and noticed that it was still closed. How strange . . .her door was usually open long before the bell rang. Maybe she was finally succumbing to her body and realized just how exhausted she really was. I chuckled at the thought of Xia actually succumbing to anything, especially with that stubborn will of hers. It was rather amusing to think about.

I got to the door and pushed open. I paused as I took in the strange atmosphere. Something was definitely wrong. I glanced around the room briefly and could deduce almost definitely that she wasn't in here.

I heard a slight shifting coming from the closet. . .Well . . .she wasn't in the immediate room anyway. Another strange thing indeed. Why would she be in the closet . . . ?

Pulling away the closet doors I sucked in a sharp breath and and staggered backwards. What the hell happened?! My mind bobbled in twenty million different directions. Xia . . .she was on the floor . . .with the same look that Susan had. Wha--she had a black eye and there was dried blood around her nose and mouth.

"Holy shit . . ." I muttered under my breath, I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her eyes locked on mine for a short time and it was empty, I could almost see through them. She stared back into nothing as if it didn't register that I was standing right there. I reached my hand out towards her and she pulled back sharply. It shocked me slightly but I had to find out what was wrong. My eyes drifted down her body and they instantly drew brakes when they landed on her torn night clothes. The top part was falling off her shoulders and the material looked stretched beyond repair. W-who would do this?!
