This year's competition theme is storytelling so we have to tell a story using only a song and choreography.

One thing that has been changed though is the name of the annual competition. It's no longer called the Ballet of Prima dance competition. The host of the annual contest had decided to include more styles of dancing.

It was never just a ballet competition but it had always featured the softer styles of dance. Now the contest includes styles like hip hop.

"You guys have been doing amazing. I think you guys are ready. But, with the Leap National Dance Competition having all of these new styles of dance this year, there's a very high possibility that the other contestants will wow the judges. It's a high probability that these new styles present something that the judges find endearing, right?" Coach Valencia paces in front of us.

Both me and Kenji have done a few other styles of dance like Jazz, Latin, Samba, Contemporary, and I've even done belly dancing. Contemporary has always felt the most lively to us.

"Yes, Miss V." I express as Kenji just simply nods his head and leans against the wall next to my sitting position on the floor.

We've been practicing tooth and nail for this competition for over 3 months and I still feel like a week is nowhere near enough time to prep.

"Protect your title and your streak. Show them who you are!" Coach V has always been a really good coach. She knows how to get in our heads in the best possible way.

"But, right now I want you to start with shopping." her voice shifts from serious and weighty to soft and sweet.

Kenji looks down at me and I see my exact expression mirrored on his face.

Confusion.

"Shopping? Why would we go shopping?" he asks the question that's floating around my head. Your costumes!" what? But our costumes are hand-made by Julia. Why would we buy them for a big comp like this?

"But what about Julia? Doesn't she usually make our costumes?" Coach sighs and her sweet smile drops as she shoves her hands in her sweater pockets.

"Julia is in the hospital. She isn't doing very well and I can't hire someone else to make them because a week's time isn't enough." my eyebrows shoot up at the newfound information.

Why didn't she tell us earlier?

"What's wrong with her?" Kenji asks. They aren't very close but they do have a sibling type of relationship whenever they talk.

"I don't know but I hope she's okay." she says as if the words hurt her just coming out of her mouth.

I stand up and walk toward her, putting my hand on her arm reassuringly. "Your sister will be fine. We'll make you both proud, I promise." she smiles as we walk out, and Kenji shoots her a sympathetic smile as he passes her.
