"Lily, I think we should break up. l'm not feeling the same way about you anymore."
"What..?"
"I mean, it's been bothering me for a while now. We're great friends and that's what matters most, right?" He tries to maintain a casual tone, but
there's a hint of guilt in his eyes.
"But I thought you loved me.."
"I did, Lily. I really did. But things change, feelings change. We should focus on being the best friends we can
be, okay?" He pats her shoulder gently, trying to hide the guilt completely.
"So what? Is that it?"
"I guess it is."

He turned around, hoping Lily would accept his decision. But deep down, he knew it was going to hurt her, and he felt guilty about that. She stood there, heartbroken. He turned around.

"Lily, look, I know this isn't easy for you. Just.. take your time. We'll still be there for each other, okay?" He hesitated, not sure if he was making things better or worse.
"Just- just leave me alone for a bit."
"I'm sorry." He said, walking away, feeling awful for hurting her like this.

He knew they were better off as friends, but he couldn't shake the guilt that was eating him up inside. A few days later, Lily went round Henrys house to study with Piper, Henrys sister. He came downstairs, not
realising Piper and Lily were studying.

"Henry go away!" Piper said.
"So kind." He looked at Piper and then back at Lily, realising they were studying together. He couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy.
"Um, I actually think l'm gonna go home soon.." She said to Piper.

He tried to maintain a neutral tone. As he watched her leave, he felt an odd mix of relief and guilt wash over him. He knew he'd hurt her deeply, but seeing her with Piper only intensified those feelings.

"You are horrible." Piper said to Henry. He turned to face her surprised by her words. "What are you talking about?"
"You broke her heart. You should apologise."
"I'm sorry I hurt her. But things have changed. We're better off as friends."
"No you arent. You guys were
endgame."
Henry sighed, knowing she was right. He didn't want to admit it, but he had been thinking the same thing,
"Look, I know I messed up. But can we just move on from this?"
"No, please get her back."
"I can't force feelings, Piper. I really am sorry." He looked away, unable to meet her gaze.

He knew he was being
stubborn, but he also believed that trying to reconcile with Lily would only
lead to more pain in the long run. The next day. Lily and Henry saw eachother at school. Henry tried his best not to look at Lily as he walked past her in the hallway between classes. He knew he'd hurt her, and he couldn't shake the guilt that was eating him up inside. He continued down the hall, his heart feeling heavy with what had happened. She looked at him, tears in her eyes as he walked past her, acting as if he'd never known her. Henry paused and turned around slowly, his heart racing with nervoushess.

"Lily... I'm really sorry for what happened." He began, taking a small step towards her. "I know I messed up, and I've been thinking about what we
had.. thinking about you."
"I just.. I don't want us to be strangers anymore. We were good together, and I don't want that to be ruined completely." He looked into her eyes, hoping for some sign of forgiveness or
understanding.

"You dont love me anymore. Its over."
"No, that's not true. It's just, things changed, and we realized we were better off as friends. I still care about you, Lily. A lot." He paused, taking a deep breath.
"I'm so madly I'm love with you Henry. But you don't love me. It won't ever work."
"I know, and I'm sorry. But I want us to be able to be there for each other, even if it's not as a couple. We had something special, and I don't want to lose that completely."

He took another step closer, his voice barely above a whisper. She started to cry more, wiping her eyes. "But- we can't."
Henry reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair from her face. "We can try," he whispered back. "I'Il prove to you that we can still be happy
together." He took another step
forward, their bodies almost touching.
