"Eleanor, sweetheart, you're going to be fine," my mother comforts me in our living room of the Breezewood house.

"Dad's dead," I sob, "how can anything be fine?"

"You still have me, sweetie," she kisses the top of my head gently, "and as long as you have me I will make sure everything in your life is fine."

"Then what happens when you leave me?" I look up into my mother's arctic blue eyes.

"Then you will be independent, and you will be stronger, and you will fight for yourself, for me, and for your father," she gives me a sad smile.

"I just want dad back," I sob, "I want our family to be whole."

"Our family will always be whole," she pauses, "even with death separating us. He will always look out for you."

I hug my mother tightly, sobbing into her shoulder. She's seems more frail after dad's death, and she's as thin as a stick. She hasn't been treating herself well after his death, but I guess I haven't either, so I don't comment. I just want to say one last I love you to my dad. And from now on, I will protect my mother because I won't be able to continue with both of my parents dead. I don't want to be an orphan.
