The Way's house

As Gerard arrived at his sprawling mansion, he couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt as he spotted the gardeners hard at work in the expansive grounds. The gardens were vast, stretching out before him in a riot of colors and textures, and he knew that it would take them at least a week to finish their job. Approaching the gardeners, Gerard offered them a warm smile. "Good evening," he greeted. The gardeners looked up from their work, surprise evident in their expressions as they recognized Gerard. "Good evening, sir," one of them replied. Gerard glanced around at the sprawling gardens. "I'm sorry for the size of the task," he said sincerely. "I know it must seem overwhelming." The gardeners nodded in agreement, their expressions weary from the long hours of labor. "It's quite a job, sir," another one admitted, wiping sweat from his brow and Gerard nodded sympathetically. "Well, do your best," he encouraged, offering them a reassuring smile. "I'll make sure you're well taken care of."

With a grateful nod, the gardeners returned to their work, their spirits lifted by Gerard's words of encouragement. As Gerard entered the grand foyer of his mansion, he was greeted by the sight of his parents, seated alongside his newlywed bride. Despite the lavish surroundings, the atmosphere was tense. "Good evening, everyone," Gerard said but his parents and Hayley remained silent. Ignoring the chilly reception, Gerard made his way over to where they were seated. "How was your day?" he asked, attempting to break the ice. In their world, one of the strict house rules dictated that no one should sit unless Donald and Donna permitted it. He knew that in their world, appearances were everything, and any breach of etiquette was met with swift and severe consequences. Donna fixed Gerard with a steely gaze. "Where have you been, Gerard?" she demanded. Gerard felt a surge of panic rise within him, knowing that he couldn't reveal the truth about his secret rendezvous with Frank. "I've been... occupied," he replied vaguely, his voice faltering slightly.

Donald raised an eyebrow at Gerard's response. "Occupied with what, exactly?" he pressed. Gerard's mind raced as he struggled to come up with a convincing lie. "Just... attending to some personal matters," he offered, hoping that his parents wouldn't press him for more details. But Donna's expression remained impassive, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "You know that as a member of our family, you have certain responsibilities," she reminded him. Gerard nodded in understanding, his heart sinking as he realized that he wouldn't be able to escape their scrutiny so easily. "Yes, Mother," he replied obediently, his posture stiff. Donna's piercing gaze bore into Gerard as she continued to question him. "What were you thinking, Gerard?" she pressed. "You've just been married, and yet you disappear without a word." Gerard felt the weight of his mother's disappointment. "I apologize, Mother," he said. "I had some urgent matters to attend to."

After a tense silence, Donald finally relented, gesturing for Gerard to take a seat. "Sit, Gerard," he said, his voice softer now. Relieved to finally be allowed to sit, Gerard sank into the plush armchair, his muscles relaxing slightly as he settled into the familiar comfort of the furniture. "Now that you're someone's husband," Donald began, "there are certain expectations that come with that role." Gerard listened intently as his father dispensed his advice, his mind racing as he tried to absorb everything that was being said. He knew that as a married man, his responsibilities had increased tenfold, and he was determined to live up to the expectations placed upon him. "You must always put your wife's needs before your own," Donald continued. "Thank you, Father," Gerard said sincerely. "I will do my best to be a good husband to Hayley." Donald nodded in approval, a faint smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I have every confidence that you will, Gerard," he replied.
