The next morning, Gerard stood under the warm spray of the shower, the water cascading over his tense muscles. For the first time in months, he felt light and calm. He closed his eyes, letting the water run over his face, washing away the tears that had dried there. Gerard's thoughts drifted to the promise he had made to Hayley, the name Cherry symbolizing a new beginning, a way to honor his past while stepping into the future. As the water continued to flow, Gerard found himself taking deep, steadying breaths. He felt the tightness in his chest begin to loosen, replaced by a tentative sense of peace. After a long while, Gerard turned off the water and stepped out of the shower, wrapping himself in a plush towel. He caught his reflection in the mirror, noticing the absence of the usual dark circles under his eyes. He looked tired but somehow more present, more alive. He dried off and dressed, choosing a comfortable sweater and jeans.

Gerard sat on the edge of the bed and he stared at the floor, lost in thought, when he heard the gentle creak of the bedroom door opening. Hayley walked in, and without a word, she moved toward him. She wrapped her arms around him from behind, resting her chin on his shoulder and Gerard felt the tension in his body begin to melt away as he leaned back into her, allowing himself to be held. "How are you really feeling?" Hayley asked softly and Gerard took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment. "I feel... different," he admitted. "Lighter, somehow. But also scared. It's like I'm finally starting to let go of something, but I don't know what's waiting on the other side." Hayley tightened her hug, pressing a gentle kiss to his temple. "Whatever it is, we'll face it together," she whispered. "You're not alone in this, Gerard. I’m here, and we’re going to make it through." Gerard turned slightly to look at her. "Thank you," he said. "For everything. For being here, for understanding... for loving me despite everything."

Hayley smiled, a tear slipping down her cheek as she cupped his face in her hands. "I love you, Gerard. And I'm not going anywhere. We have a future to build, a family to raise. And we're going to do it together, no matter what." He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling. "I want that too," he said softly. "More than anything." Gerard sank to his knees in front of Hayley, his hands gently resting on her growing belly. He looked up at her and Hayley smiled down at him. "Hello, Cherry," Gerard said softly. "It's your Father. I can't wait to meet you." Hayley chuckled, her hand lightly stroking his hair. "You know, she might end up hating cherries," she teased and Gerard grinned, looking back up at her. "Then we'll just have to find something else she loves and call her that. Maybe she'll be a little blueberry instead." Hayley laughed. "Or a peach. She could be our little peach." Gerard nodded, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Cherry or Peach, whatever she likes, she's already perfect to me."

He leaned in closer, pressing a gentle kiss to her belly. "You hear that, Cherry? You're already the most loved little fruit in the world." Hayley giggled, the sound mingling with Gerard's soft laughter. "What do you think she'll be like?" she asked and Gerard thought for a moment, his hands still resting protectively on her stomach. "I think she'll be strong, like her mom," he said thoughtfully. "And curious about the world. Maybe she'll have your laugh, that beautiful, infectious laugh." Hayley blushed, shaking her head. "And I hope she has your eyes," she added softly. "Those kind, soulful eyes." Gerard felt a lump form in his throat at her words and he reached up, taking her hand in his and squeezing it gently. "I just want her to be happy," he said. "To grow up in a world where she feels safe and loved." Hayley nodded, tears glistening in her eyes. "She will be," she whispered. "Because she has us. We'll make sure of it." They stayed like that for a while, Gerard leaned his forehead against Hayley's belly, closing his eyes. "Cherry, you have no idea how much we love you already," he murmured. "We can't wait to see who you become."
