Franks POV
I would love to say we kept to our word, that we stayed together for multiple
lifetimes, id love to tell you we had a forever, but that didn't happen.
We had a nice life together, we had adopted two kids and a dog and we were happy, so, so happy.
But then Gerard relapsed. He became abusive and he took up smoking again, his little sticks of cancer he used against me, burning circular holes in my skin. Despite this, i still loved him.
4 years ago, Gerard was admitted to the hospital, complaining of chest pain.
Each little cancer stick he smoked, gave him the lung cancer he had, the one that made him unable to breath and it did horrible things. He was too far along to have chemo.
The kids didn't know what happened between us, they ask about the scars today and I respond by looking at the burns forlornly and shaking my head. They didn't need to remember Gerard as a drunk.
Gerard died 2 years ago, the cancer traveled, he was completely made of the cancer.
I guess no one can have a happy ending, happily ever after was never meant to be.
However, i did keep one promise to Gerard, i stayed with him 'till the end, and thats all he ever wanted.
