Request #24: The main plot is that our reader is engaged to steve and loves him so much but he's still pining for Peggy so upon returning the stones he stays with Peggy leaving the reader heartbroken. Steve regrets his choice and then comes back, only to find out that the reader had just gotten married to another man

"You'll come right back right?" You hold Steve tight against you. He was just about to embark in a journey that would change the future of the entire world.

Steve has always been your hero, since you met him. What sucks is that you had to share your hero with the world, but if it meant saving innocent lives everywhere, you're actually fine with that.

Steve hums into your forehead, kissing you there and then giving you a subtle kiss on your lips, "I promise."

Not being able to stop the tears from falling down, your fianceé quickly cleans them up with his thumb, he knows this isn't easy. But it had to be done, to save you, to save everyone else, to ensure the future of those babies he wants with you...

"I'm scared," you know you sound selfish, because Steve had to go and return the stones one by one and that wasn't going to be easy for him, or safe. You can't imagine how he's feeling right now, but you know Steve is only scared of one thing which is: losing you.

Everything else he's very brave, always has been since he was 18 years old and on his own. Steve is the most strongest, courageous and fearless man you've ever met.

Steve slides his hand into his suit pants, fishing for something in the lower pocket.

He doesn't let you see what it is when he places it into the center of your palm but your mind registers what it is as soon as you feel it, "I'll be back for this, pretty girl."

"I was going to bring it with me, but I want you to keep it safe while I'm gone..."

"...Steve," your voice trembles with hurt, with agony because you didn't want him to go. A sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach let you know something was going to happen, that one voice in your head telling you what you didn't want to know.

"I'll be back before you know it."

He explains, caressing your cheek, "we'll continue planning our wedding, which will have all those pastel colors you want. Right on the beach...and in March because..."

"...it's the luckiest month of the year," you finish for him, he's always saying that, and you don't care to have a March wedding, as long as you're marrying Steve. The love of your life.

Both of you smile, you through the tears and Steve through his watery eyes. "I love you," he says, kissing you once more.

You touch over his hand laying on your face, and repeat the same words back to him.

As he made his way to the machine that would be transporting him into different moments in time, you can't bear to look, instead you stare down at the wedding band he left behind in the center of your hand...

A mistake. A mistake is what he did.

He just saw her...and he felt like a young man again.

He saw her...and everything became blurry, and-very very confusing.

Peggy made him dinner, they chatted about old times, and for a moment Steve considered staying. Far more than he already has...he spends the night, until the next morning realizing what he has done...

"Two sugars?"

Peggy asks, dancing around in her kitchen, already dressed and showered. As Steve sat in one of her kitchen table chairs, he takes in Peggy's home. It's different...this is all very different.
