In Silence

In Silence:
I speak of illusion.
I hear songs of ancient tongues,
Rhythms of faraway places.
Spaces and spaces of maps and they trace them out, place them out-
Kingdoms of galaxy stars,
Seen from near or afar.
But in silence they calmly disperse.

In silence:
I sing of delusion.
Strung right close to illusion,
With just strumming and humming, along for the ride.
There is dancing, arms wide-flailing.
Might be wailing-
Some sailing, all masts to the break.
But in silence come centre and calm.

In silence:
I shield eyes from intrusion.
Strict-walled confines of barbed-wire,
Set and ready.
Snag intruders, invaders-
Systems for downing attacks from outer space.
A can of mace...
But in silence the warning horn quiets.

In silence:
I dream in roots dug deep beneath the soil.
Water's trickle over my outstretched structure,
Sun baked, bare and to the breeze.
Gentle whispers through the grass,
Barely willow flute, come back.
And silence is my long lost friend.
