The leader of the appearing dwarf army, Dáin Ironfoot, and Thranduil are bickering back and forth.
They're about to launch another testy attack on each other, when the ground shakes and massive were-worms burst out from the mountains, creating huge tunnels in their wake.
Out come legions of orcs, trolls and goblins.
"By Valar!" Fehlina mutters to herself.

The dwarves re-arrange their attack and head for the dark horror marching on them.
Gandalf shouts at Thranduil, telling him he has to help.
Fehlina doesn't know what to do; join her army or go trying to save Thorin.
She chooses the latter.

She runs towards the stone gate, finds the rope Bilbo used to escape down with after his quarrel with Thorin, and climbs towards the top.
The dwarves are gone when she reaches the ledge. She searches the area, and finds the dwarfish company loitering around, dressed in their armours, looking very sorrowful.
Some of them go into stance and are ready to attack her.

"No, don't, she's our friend," one of the dwarves speaks.
"My name is Balin. Thorin has told me about you," the old dwarf explains.
"Where is he?" Fehlina asks.
"It's better to leave him alone," Balin says.
"No, it's not!" another dwarf yells and takes off.
"Dwalin!" Balin shouts at the dwarf that just left. He sighs. "Come, sit down, we'll wait together," the old dwarf says, sitting down on a rock.
"But my people," Fehlina starts saying, feeling her heart breaking, looking in the direction of the battle that's already being fought.
"Do what you must," Balin looks at her with understanding eyes.
Fehlina falls to her knees, her emotions and an inevitable choice, tearing her apart.
