June 2nd Continued...
I put my hands up in front of me in a white flag gesture, and say, 'You're right. I don't know what I was thinking, of course I need to stay here. Just like Jameson said.' If Freya and Roxy are playing a game the only way I'm going to keep me and Mac safe is if I play along till I see a move to get me out of here, and a way to find Mac.
'Good girl. We're trying to protect you Lilah. Trust me, this is the best thing for now. This is not the time to be boarding a plane to London, or anywhere else for that matter,' Freya says.
I paste a small smile on my face and say, 'I know you are. It's just this whole Mac thing has got my mind spinning. I'll stay here with you guys. But first I need to go back to the room. There's something I forgot.'
I have to get back to the room and get that poem back. What if he comes back tonight and sees it?
Freya waves a dismissive hand and says, 'What do you need to get from the room?'
'Oh, it's just... I left my books there. My poems, my notebooks. I need them now so I write everything down. Turn him into a poem, then crumple him up and throw him in the bin.'
'Oh Sweetie, I have a beautiful notebook for you, and a fountain pen that would suit a poem like that perfectly. Now come on, I've already ordered sushi and saki. We'll eat, drink and talk all this Mac stuff through. Or you can write a poem or whatever,' she smiles, 'And then tomorrow you can go back to the room and collect the last of your stuff. One night won't make any difference.'
Roxy, who's been quiet during this whole exchange, finally picks this moment to chime in, 'No arguments Lilah, you need to eat, and you need to sleep. I'll take you to the room tomorrow. You can pick it all up then.'
There's no way out of this without causing a scene and I have a feeling that if I pushed right now, I might see Freya and Roxy's true colours. It's better if I back down. Jameson taught me that, it was one of his first lessons. So I say, 'Sure. Sushi, and an early night. That'd be nice.'
I'll eat the sushi, pretend to drink the saki, then climb out of the window, get on my motorbike and get back to the room. I need to get that poem because it's sod's law that you'll come back at the very moment that I don't want you to.
I watch Freya and Roxy laying the dining table with chopsticks and saki glasses as if this is a regular girls night. Freya dishes out orders to Roxy and Roxy follows them to the letter. Then it clicks, Freya isn't Roxy's friend, Freya is her boss.
