June 11th Continued...
Mac...
I watch as they guide you out of the car and walk you towards the house like a broken robot hardly functioning. This will be the first time you've been back to our room since you took my paintings and left that poem that detonated us. Do you know what's happening? Have they told you yet?
Roxy told me about the plan back at the club as she held the match to the box that Freya had given her, ready to strike it. She told me I had to play my part. To meet them at the room. That they were coming for all of them. Because of you.
I didn't believe she'd light that fire. Didn't know she had it in her. She was such a sweet soft girl once. Did I kill that part of her, or did she?
She told me about you running straight into Asher and Noah's arms the very night you wrote that poem. I wanted to kill her there and then, but the stink of gasoline was in my throat. Time slowed down as she dropped the match and it hit the floor. The flames were instant...spreading at lightening speed, the roar deafening as time sped up. There was no time to deal with her, all I could think of was you... Finding you... Protecting you.
It was instinct that led me through the dark club and straight to you. I knew that cupboard was there. I'd fucked enough girls in it... before you...everything was before you...nothing after.
I knew our best chance was to wait it out in the cupboard. But when we got in there, the way you looked at me... It executed any hope I had.
I watch as they march you into the house. You're about to find out everything I've been shielding you from. Maybe I should have told you the truth while I had the chance. For you and me the room existed in it's own realm above the stars. But it was a small cog in a bigger machine. Freya decorated it with enough props to make it look like an art studio. The table we've been eating at - the scratched up one with the paint stains - that's mine. The easel - mine too. The pots and pans - bought at some high end make-believe thrift store. And me - I guess I was make believe too.
The whole thing was a fairy tail designed for you. To keep you happy and safe. To make mine, Freya's and Roxy's job easier. No one wanted to keep you a prisoner, it would have been too much like hard work.
Babysitting you was sold to me as an easy job. Hang out in the safe house. Keep you occupied. Hell, I'd even got to work on my painting skills. But I knew as soon as I met you that the job was going to be complicated. I couldn't get a read on you. Couldn't predict your movements. And then there was the added complication of falling in love with you. It wasn't one of those slow burn things, it was immediate and inconvenient.None of us knew who you were back then. We just knew that you were Jameson's, and you were precious. But someone must have found out because Roxy just told me that you're the keys to the kingdom. They'll use you as a bargaining chip to keep Jameson safe. But they only know half the truth. What none of them -including Roxy- know is that you are not the only key.
The only way I can get you to safety is to wait for Jameson to arrive. Look like I'm following the plan. Once he's here I can pull the pin from the truth and let it rip them all apart. That will be your moment to run. With or without me.
I will always protect you. We will always be tethered, even if it's only by our past. I taught you how to surrender, but you taught me how to love.
