Chapter Twenty - Capture Conflict

Knock, knock, knock.

Jimmy Z enters the Dandelion Driver. "Clover? Do you where Chris—?" He finally spots him. "—is..."

He quietly closes the door and processes what he just saw. "I knew it!" He whispered to himself. He was unsure whether or not to tell the others, but he decided that it would benefit the others' enjoyment if they each got their own moment of spontaneously seeing the two together.

A few minutes later, Martin, Aviva, and Koki call Chris from the monitor. He slowly wakes up and answers the call. He stretches, making sure not to wake up Clover, and answers.

"Hello?" As soon as he yawns and brings Clover into the frame, the trio immediately become shocked. "Did I oversleep?" He unknowingly asks.

Clover finally stirs awake and stretches like a cat. Only to realize she's face-to-face with Chris.

He lowers his Creature Pod and drops it on the floor. The crew can still see them from the lowered angle. They can see the blush rising on their faces, how neither of them are moving, how everybody, including themselves, are speechless.

Jimmy enters the room and walks up to see what the crew are seeing. "Are they still asleep?" The observant trio whip their heads around.

"Where have you been?" Koki speaks up.

"In the garage to check up on Clover and Chris and tell them we're about to take off soon."

"The one time you wake up early for once..."

"What's that supposed to mean? If there's a special edition remastered version of one of my favorite video games, you know I'm totally gonna be first in line."

Back to the feed. Clover quickly stands up, followed by Chris scrambling and following behind her, picking up his Creature Pod in the process, and hanging up. They make it to the main area and talk over each other on what happened. Nobody can understand them except for their last words.

"AND NOTHING HAPPENED!"

They're as nervous as flustered can be. The crew look at them still in disbelief except for Jimmy who found out first. "Did you kiss?"

"NO!" They yell simultaneously. Even when they're nervous, they still somehow manage to be in sync.

"Clover..." Martin calmly takes a step forward.

She tenses up. "It's all over, it's all over, it's all over!" She repeats this in her mind.

She feels her heart beating in her head. Does she even want to look at her shaking hands? She takes a step back. Martin gulps and slowly takes another step forward.

"Clover? I—I'm really not mad. None of us are."

Chris turns back to see Clover continuing backing away from everybody. He's worried, but in Clover's eyes, he's looking at her like she should leave.

So she does.

She dashes out the door, almost bumping into the wall, and runs as far away as she can from the Tortuga.

"Clover, wait!!" Chris urgently puts on his Creature Power Suit and runs after her.

Iris is working remotely today, something she typically doesn't do. She thought it was odd, but she felt like she needed some sort of break from the usual office setting she coops herself in.

She stops typing on her laptop for a moment and looks at the family photo, more closely at Clover. She then looks at the time on her watch and then back at her work.
