thus, folks assume I'm dumb.

thus conceived of as deluded.
It is the human failing:
folks cannot put intelligence and sweetness together.
I've surprised one
who thought she would enlighten me
the look on her face
when she suddenly saw
after all these years
that I had a mind
and a will
and nastiness of my own
