13 2 2

All my fountains are in you

My fires, seeds, light, seas, wells, and other symbols more--

You were the portal they entered through.

A well springing up, my foremost sun, never failing, ever new

From morn of childhood to the end of days, the sure

Living light and fountain of my life is you. You

with your warrior kings, divine puzzles, and tragic princes too

taught me to love wisdom, art, history, debate, and metaphor

Yes! You were the portal all I love entered through.

Deep calls to deep, all within me echoes you

the director from which i take my cue

All my fountains are in you

The one portal that all I am entered through

This fractured villanelle is based on Psalm 87:7 As they make music they will sing, "All my fountains are in you."

English Standard Version: Singers and dancers alike say, "All my springs are in you."

New American Standard Bible: Then those who sing as well as those who play the flutes shall say, "All my springs of joy are in you."

King James Bible: As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.
