"Amanda's in labor?"
"Yes. And she requested you be there."
I turn back to the secretary. "Does Mrs.Waters happen to be in today?"
"Yes...? She's right there..." she says, pointing.
"Oh thank god."
I follow her finger on the desk the secretary who knows me the best is sitting at.
"Oh, hello, Ellie! What brings you here?"
"Two of my mom's co-workers are trying to sign me out and she's having none of it."
I flash the badges again, and Mrs.Waters rolls her eyes. "Let the poor girl go, Beth, jeez."
"Fine."
"Thank you," I chime.
Giving back their things, I pass Fin and Nick to go retrieve my bag.
