Lily POV

"It's lemur," I said.

That little shit-head. And the joke he cracked. I walked away, smiling. I closed my door, cleaning my teeth then putting on my pajamas. I jumped into my bed, snuggling into the covers, and promptly fell asleep. And when I woke, I heard a crash downstairs. Shit, I thought. James.

I raced down the stairs, pulling my hair into a ponytail and tying my dressing gown up and laughed at the sight in front of me. The laughing subsided when I realised James' nose was out of shape, twisted to the left, and was bleeding. I crashed down on the floor next to him, and whipped my wand out.

"James what happened?"

"Oh, you know coffee table got in the way, the usual."

I chuckled.

"Episkey," I said, shocking James slightly.

I got up, pulling James with me. We rushed to grab our stuff, and headed down to the hall, where we discovered our friend groups had merged. Honestly, I wasn't that surprised. If I hadn't been friends with the girls, they would have hung out with the Marauders earlier. But then again, I hadn't expected things to be like they were this year. I hadn't expected James to change, or even be Head Boy. But things can surprise people.

"Why are you two late, huh?" Sirius said suggestively.

"I slept in," I shrugged. "And when I woke, it was to the sound of this idiot, here, who fell over our coffee table."

Marlene, who had been sipping on her pumpkin juice, spluttered it all over the table. She laughed for about a minute, until Professor McGonagall appeared at the table, saying that our timetables were ready. She handed each of us our timetables, and I took a look at mine.

Herbology

I looked up from mine, noticing that James and I were both in advanced charms and a study together. Bugger. Today was going to be tortuous.

"Anyone else have double herbology at the end?" I asked desperately.

One herbology was enough, let alone two of 'em. They all looked at me, then nodded. At least there was one class where we were all there. And that's counting James. I suppose life wasn't that bad now that we were 'friends'. If our relationship was that simple at all. Which it wasn't. We had been friends for a short period of time at the very tip of our schooling, where James had introduced himself to me, then when I realised he was an idiot in class, it went downhill. Then pretty much everyone knows what happened between us.

*

Charms class, it turned out, was a bore. I knew all of the stuff we were doing, but I supposed I needed to reenforce what I was learning to achieve full marks on my exams. But, whenever I found myself look up, it was never at the board, it was at James, who was seated next to some Hufflepuff girl, who also did Advanced Charms. His hazel eyes bore into mine, and we didn't look away for about five seconds. Until of course, the teacher had the idea to pick on him. James spluttered about the work, then Professor Flitwick advised to focus on his work and not on me. That stopped me from staring.

Then we happened to have a study together, as I said before, and I couldn't concentrate. Until I came up with a plan to get us working together, which was probably a good idea anyway.

"James, I know your probably fascinated in that charms homework over there," I began. "But -,"

"I'll do whatever you want me to," he said automatically.

"Good, I wanna work on the timetable for the patrols."

"K."

And we got to work, thankfully finishing the timetables ready to hand out for tonight. Although James and I were doing the first shift of the year.

Herbology finished on a high, as we had done the first prac of term, and even finished the homework for that during the class. So there actually was no homework. And we got to whatever we wanted in the common room, provided the others didn't mess it up. I wasn't gonna clean it on the first day back.

James POV

The group joined Lily and I in the common room, and we played a couple of board games, ate some of the lollies that I smuggled in from Hogsmeade, and came up with some genius prank ideas - Lily included. Soon enough, it was our time for patrols, and the others left us in our common room. We grabbed our stuff and headed out into the deserted corridors. We wandered around looking for anyone who might have been out of bed late, or any pranksters that were plotting.

Eventually we decided to head back, as there was no one there, and sit on the couch for a bit. She sat down on the ground at my feet, and lay her head back on the chair. I sat there for a bit, then started playing with her hair. She pulled it out of her ponytail and let me play with it for a while. Finally after I could hold it no more, I murmured;

"Are you cracking, Lily. Are you finally letting me in?"

She turned to face me, then out of the corner of her eye, must have seen something.

"Did you see that?"

"What?" I asked stupidly.

"The shooting star."

She knelt up, and leant on my leg, looking out at the window. My messy hair fell down in front of my face, and I pushed it out of the way, realising Lily had pulled me to my feet, and we were over by the window. Just watching the stars. We stayed there what seemed like hours. I wrapped my arms around Lily's shoulder comfortingly, and she just sighed, leaning her head against my chest. I put my chin on top of her head, and we didn't move until I felt her stir slightly in my arms.

"You wanna go to bed now, Lily?"

She nodded rubbing her eyes and yawning. I lifted her up, scaring the absolute crap out of her, and carried her all the way to her room. When I put her down, though, she wrapped her arms around me for support, and I held her up until she could stand by herself. It was almost like a cuddle. Almost.

"Night, James."

"Night, Lily."

"Have a good sleep," she said, steadying herself on the door handle.

"You too, Lils."

She still stood at her door, but didn't correct me. And in the next three seconds, she made her way back over to me, and pulled me down, giving me a quick peck on the cheek.

"Maybe I'm cracking, slightly," she whispered dangerously.

Geez, I would be thinking about that kiss for days on end.

AN: Ok, so I literally just almost deleted this chapter and I had a heart attack. Honestly, I am the dumbest person on earth. Anyway, school is all good just so you know, even though you don't care, and don't deny it. I am still sick blah blah blah, all that crap. Anyway hoping to get next chapter up soon, coz I'm trying to get chapter 11 and 12 up by the end of Saturday. But I do have a day off school on Wednesday coz the teachers have a PD so might write some more then. Who knows, but as I'm the master of procrastination there probably won't be any activity. I think I've rambled for long enough, The Chooper out!
