Evelyn closed her eyes and rested her head against the window. She slowly breathed in and out and listened to the pitter-patter of raindrops against the window pane. When she opened her eyes she wiped away the condensation that had gathered on the window and stared at the soldiers preparing to depart below. The conglomerate of men walked along the boot-trodden ground, some moved at fast-pace while others strolled, but all headed toward the pair of men that stood at the line of twisted trees that marked the beginning of the forest.

As the soldiers neared the wall of trees, the tallest of the pair stepped forward, pushed his drenched white blond hair out of his face and opened his mouth to speak to the men.

“Watching your beloved deliver a rousing speech to men, as they are all forced to stand outside in the pouring rain?” Evelyn suddenly heard say from behind her. Which surprised her so much she jumped and smashed her into the window pane. So she was rubbing her forehead as she turned around to see a highly amused Lucifer.

“Have you just come to cause me pain, Lucifer? And why are they outside in the pouring rain, aren’t you the one who decides when they leave?” Evelyn asked as she turned her back to Lucifer to watch the scene beyond the window.

“My men are currently planning to depart now because the estimated time they would arrive, the rebels would be most unprepared for them. And as for causing you pain, that was simply a fortunate side effect.” Lucifer said as he walked closer to Evelyn, before he came to a stop right beside her.

Evelyn gave Lucifer a dirty look for the last statement and went back to watching Asmodeus giving the men a speech and shaking her head as Mammon made ridiculous faces behind Asmodeus’s back. Evelyn and Lucifer both silently watched as Asmodeus finished his speech to claps and cheers from the surrounding men before they all dispersed and Asmodeus turned around to throw Mammon into a tree.

“Besides,” Lucifer continued, “My men can stand a little rain, if they couldn’t I would save the enemy some time and kill them myself.” He said as he looked down at his men as they made finally perorations to depart.

Evelyn turned to him, horrified. “Why would you do such a thing?”

Lucifer continued to watch as Asmodeus picked Mammon and throw him into another tree. “Because those men belong to me, they live in order to be able to protect and defend my kingdom. If they can’t stand a little rain then how can I expect to be able to protect and defend, and if they can’t do that then why should I let them continue to exist?”

“Because they are people with feeling that can do so many things!” Evelyn cried.

Lucifer shrugged and looked at Evelyn. “What they can and can’t do beyond what is beneficial to me is irrelevant and matters to me not. They are my soldiers and they need to be able to do as tell them.”

Evelyn looked at him and slowly shook her head. “That’s horrible, you’re cruel.”

Lucifer shrugged. “Perhaps, but what I am has keep my kingdom alive and thriving for longer than you can even comprehend. So I see no reason to change what I have been doing.” Lucifer took a step back and gave Evelyn a bow. “Now I’ll take my leave, but you can continue watching your love out the window.” Lucifer smiled at Evelyn’s scowling face as he straightened out of the bow and turned to leave the room.

Just as he reached the threshold of the door he turned back around. “Oh and before I leave I guess I should tell you that Leviathan wants to you at the Colosseum within a timely fashion, or else she will find you. She said that you don’t want her to have to find you.” Lucifer gave a final wave and smile as he walked out the room.

Evelyn cursed and gave one final look out the window to see Asmodeus dragging Mammon’s unconscious body towards the rest of soldiers, before she turned and ran out the room towards her the Colosseum. Hoping that Leviathan hadn’t already decided it was time to find her.
