Beginning of many surprises! ;)

The whole day at work, my mind kept going back to yesterday's events. I told myself that I wouldn't think about it and let it bother me anymore when I was driving to the hospital. I broke that pact with myself pretty quickly. Needless to say, it was the only thing I thought about. It's not like I was developing feelings or anything. Nope, not at all. I knew that no matter how long they'd take to give an answer, it was going to be a no.

I had originally planned that I wouldn't tell Anam anything until the answer from both sides were confirmed but she was my best friend and I knew she would be more disappointed when she would find out after everyone else. So during our lunch break, I told her everything including the day he brought his niece to the hospital.

She was shocked out of her mind at first but made me spill as quickly as Sabr did. After I was done, she stared at me for a good five minutes with a huge smirk on her face, "I bet he's handsome!"

"Oh my Allah, why does everyone say and think that?" I said exasperatedly.

"Mhm, that means he is!" she exclaimed.

"Ya Allah, Anam! I didn't even look at him in that way. Calm down before we get kicked out of the cafeteria." I said, looking around to see if anyone was staring. "You and Sabr will be the death of me."

"What are you waiting for? Ugh, whatever you're hopeless. So are you gonna say yes?" Anam lowered her head and whispered.

"No, I mean I don't know! He's going to reject me and I don't care because I'm staying single!" I told her.

"Yeah, uh huh. And unicorns are real and I can fly. Keep telling yourself that!" she rolled her eyes at me.

"Well, you can fly in an airplane and Al-Buraq is real." I smirked at her.

"Haha," she said annoyed with my tactics.

She looked at her sandwich as single strands of her hair fell out of her perfectly messy bun. She was trying to analyze a relationship that didn't even exist.

"Don't fret yourself over this. It's absolutely nothing," I said even though I knew I was lying to her and myself.

"Nouran, for once please be serious about this. You and your family have never met any guy and his family to discuss their proposal, and clearly he hasn't either. This is something, and it's something big. How can you let such a big deal pass as if it were nothing?" she said.

"Okay, yes that is true but I only agreed because my family was getting worried, and he was probably in the same situation!" I replied as if it were no big deal.

"I'm 100% sure he would've said that instead of telling you straight up that you were the first girl he actually took seriously!" she pointed out.

To some extent I knew she was right, but my heart was still stubborn and my mind a complete mess.

"Ugh," I held my head in my hands.

Anam patted my side, "Okay, be completely honest. Is there anything that you didn't like about him other than your first impression?"

"Yes," I said a little too quickly.

"Like what?" she asked with knowingly, head titled to the side.

I racked my brain for anything, anything at all. I couldn't come up with one single thing. How is that even possible? There had to be something!

After a long moment of silence, I shook my head in defeat without looking at Anam. She took a bite of her fruit salad. "See, I told you," I could hear a smile in her voice.
