The CoDas: Reboot [By Hex]

Chapter 10 : Illusions of the Frost Part 1

Zack looked so different than when I last saw him. I mean, it wasn't like he had become a toaster or anything. He just looked...different. He still had his European features on him such as his ivory light skin tone and his ocean blue eyes. But his short brunette hair was now changed into onyx black that was long enough to cover one of his eyes. He was wearing a navy blue tank top as well as black ripped jeans, something that I'd never expect him to wear.

"Dude..." I mumbled out.

"Yeah, You surprised that I'm special like you?" Zack chuckles and replies, "I'm sorry I couldn't tell you this before but secrets had to be kept for the sake of yours and humanity's safety, ya know..."

"Dude..." I repeated the word again.

Zack questioned, "...you okay?" He chuckled again, patting on my shoulder. "Is something like this really surprising? I didn't expect you to be speechless, Nathan."

I finally spoke out a sentence instead of just saying 'Dude',

"Bro, what made you all of a sudden turn into an emo?"

Zack's smile turned upside-down, "That's all you had to say!? And by the way, I am NOT an emo!"

I laughed out loud, a few others chuckle but hide their faces, that includes the manager. Zack snuck his arms around my neck, locking in tightly and started entering the left hallway in this room. Pulling me along with him.

"Anyways," Zack spoke to the manager. "I'll be taking care of him, see ya."

"Come on, Emo looking Zack, I was just joking. You don't have to do that." I spoke out, struggling to be free from his grip.

"Shush! I can't believe you, man. Why do you still tease me with that emo bull crap?"

I laughed more, as he annoyingly locked in around my neck, I patted his arm,

"Okay okay, I surrender man, stop chocking me."

"Tch, I swear, I will do it harder next time if you tell me that I'm emo.

He gently unlocked his arm around my neck as he continued walking forward. I catch my breath from laughing and then began to follow Zack. 

"Sorry man, I couldn't help it but yeah, I'll admit, I didn't expect you to be a CoDa. I'm also surprised how much you have changed, what happened to you? I swear I saw you with short brunette hair today at school and now you're all of a sudden some kind of E-"

Zack smacked me at the back of my head before I could finish my sentence, I chuckled as I rub the back of my head.

Zack exhaled, "Freak."

"Says you, Zack."

Zack grinned a little as I let out a little chuckle.

"So how come you look so different now?"

Zack turned over to me, then looked ahead again, 

"Well, it's complicated. The 'me' in the physical world and the 'me' in the spiritual world look different but we are the same person."

I took some time to process that statement, "So...You can be a different looking person in both worlds?"

"Yeah, and to be specific, there are 4 of them and we call them Lenses. The physical world is named Matter Lens, the Spiritual World is called Color Lens."

"What about the other two lenses?" 

"You will learn more about that later, for now, you should understand that the Lenses are like alternate dimensions. The Matter lens and Color lens are like mirrors with slight differences. Whatever happens in the Matter Lens happens in the Color Lens however it is different if it is the other way around which we will get into in due time."

Zack turned right as we enter a white room that seemed to be quite smaller than the one I had seen before. The room was completely empty though. The walls and floors seem to have traces of recognizable graphene material, it could've been possible for holograms or digital markings to show up on the floor; however it was just an educated guess, I didn't know for certain at that time."

"So what will we be doing then, where are we headed?"

"We're going to our own personal training room to perform a physical test on you."

"Okay..." Curious, I asked him, "What kind of test?"

"Do you remember any of your dreams that you have had after the Awakening incident?"

I thought about it for a moment, then remember the flashes of images I use to have and the abnormal figures I saw at the edge of my vision during those days, I understood quickly that they had something to do with the CoDa species. "Y-Yeah, they're a little vague though."

"Well, even if you didn't remember, I'm sure it'll all come back to you soon. Basically, it's a test to see how good you are as a newborn CoDa."

"Ah, I see. Are there any requirements for this test? Like perhaps proper clothing?"

He tilted his head back to look at me, "You are by far the most non-oblivious newborn CoDa I have ever met. Unlike the other newbies I've met, I don't even need to get into extreme detail when I'm explaining something to you."

I lifted up my right eyebrow, "So your point is that I'm a great learner?"

Zack laughed out loud, I looked at him, confused. He then explained, "Nah, the point is that out of all the CoDas we have taught, you are the calmest and collected CoDa that we have ever had." Zack stretched out while walking into the room as he continued, "Anyways, Nathan, take off your jacket, watch, and pretty much anything that can cause a distraction when you do physical activities. Place them over here."

Zack took out an earpiece, necklace, and some other materials out of his pockets and places them in a blue box at appeared in the corner. I walked over and took off all of my belongings, including my Holo-Watch. I wondered if the watch even works anymore since I am in a different realm right now, the thought then reminded me of my uncle. 

I figured he was probably busy staying up all night working on some new materials, he was a detective but also worked partially in engineering for the Gothenburg Police Force, creating all kinds of gadgets that could be used against crime.

I looked over to my left to see that Zack is typing up on a Holographic touch screen, possibly a computer that can set up the 'test arena'. I waited until he finished setting up the test. 

"Nathan, just remember to do your best, we need to know as many things about you and your abilities so that we know how exactly we can train you."

"What am I going to have to do?"

Zack tapped on the 'enter' key on the touch pad as he then began to stand in the middle of the room, he then looked at me and gestured to face him a few meters away. I followed his gestured as he bent his knees seeming like he was getting ready for a sprint. 

He then brought up his left hand and showed the back of the hand towards me. A symbol of a triangle with circles appeared. There were three circles are on the three edges of the triangle while one small circle is in the middle of the triangle, then three more and placed on each side of the triangle. 

The symbol began to glow blue as mist-like aura started flowing around his left arm. He grinned as he then spoke, "Let me fully introduce myself, I am Zack Kovlocke IllusionFrost. I am soon to be a formal squad member of Sand-Storm, my rank is 48, Class is H, Hydra. Nathan, in this test, you will be fighting against me."
