I want to punch that kid

The rest of my Sunday was spent stressing over the fact that I lost my bag. I ran back to Love & Lucky to look for it, but by the time I got there it was gone. I asked the waiters, and they said someone must have picked it up. Damn, it even had my phone in it. This is really bad. Really, really bad.

I lay on my bed face down, sulking. Gray looks up from his desk where he's doing work. "At least I have my key. It's fine Natsu, I'm sure someone from our school took it and is going to return it."

"Gray, the notebook was in it. Now if anyone finds it this whole school is screwed. That book is dangerous." I wonder if he caught any of my words, which were spoken into my pillow.

"I know. I'm picturing some serious Burn Book chaos right now."

"Oh my god, you're right," I roll onto my side. "Except it would be both girls and boys!!! This is a disaster and it's all my fault! That book can't fall into the wrong hands!" I pull at my hair and curl up into a fetus position. "Just kill me now."

"Natsu, you'll see, everything will be better. Tomorrow is Monday, I'm sure you'll get your bag back by then."

"I hope you're right. But I really hate Mondays..."

Turns out Gray didn't jinx anything this time. My backpack was in my seat in Prof. Gildarts' class first period. I literally praised angels when I saw it there. Sitting down, I check to make sure everything's still in there, when some junk falls out. My phone, wallet, keys, a few packs of gum, and some other stuff falls onto the floor under Lucy's desk. She lifts her head from the desk and picks them up for me. Juggling with the multiple things, she drops my keys again, but I pick them up for her.

"Thanks, Luce."

"Anytime," she smiles back. It hits me how much I've missed this. How much I've missed Lucy. I open my mouth to say more, but at that moment Prof. Gildarts starts his class. Great timing.

After class I really check the contents of my bag. All my homework and school books are there, which is a relief. What isn't, however, is that a certain black notebook is missing. I suffer a second little heart attack until lunch, stressing over how hectic things could get. Maybe there will be another announcement, I think bitterly. I take a seat at a table in the cafeteria with Laxus, Mira, Gray, Juvia, Cana, Levy, and Lucy. God knows what Erza's up to right now.

Lunch is relatively quiet, since neither Gray nor I speak. Cana keeps looking back and forth between the two of us.

"Ok, have Gray and Natsu actually had a genuine fight??!?" She finally exclaims. Gray and I look up at her in shock.

"No!! It's nothing like that!" I say quickly. As Gray tries to calm down Cana, someone walks up to our table. I half expect to see Erza walking up to us, so I don't think much of it. Well that half was extremely wrong, when I saw familiar silver locks.

"Lisanna," my voice cracks, not knowing how to say I lost it.

She ducks her head. "Thank you."

I tilt my head, "for what?"

"Y'know, doing what I asked. Thank you for helping me." With that, Lisanna turns around, ducks her head, and hightails out of there. Next to me, Lucy stiffens, but doesn't say anything. Gray and I share equally confused looks. He non discreetly pulls out his phone and texts me.

how'd she get it back?

I don't know. someone must have given it to her anonymously.
same person who had my backpack prob

you're right. but this is still sus
who would find your bag and that book, and not spill everything?

I don't know.
but whoever it is seems to be keeping their mouths shut.

Gray and I look up from our phones and again share worried looks. A small cough from next to me startles me from the intensity of what just happened.

"So that's where you've been, Natsu?" In a low voice only meant for me, Lucy whispers. "You've been helping Lisanna?"

I reply at an equally low volume, "yeah, she's a friend. I always help my nakama." Lucy nods, as if content, but there's something missing.

"I know. It's important to help people. I'm glad she found some kind of closure... she deserves it of all people." Lucy's whisper trails off, and I can't stop staring at her. What would Lucy know of Lisanna's troubles, and the kind of closure she needs? How could Lucy know enough to say that? I suddenly think back to the phone call I got, while searching Gigi's room. Is that what Lucy meant by 'that's where I've been'?

"Luce, you know I don't mean-" interrupting my whisper, she stands up to throw out her trash. Levy reaches out and places a hand on her arm, but Lucy ignores her. When she gets to the trashcan, some random kid bumps into her, causing them to spill their milk down her leg and into her shoe. Surprised by the cold sensation and pushed by the kid, Lucy knocks over the trashcan. Dirty trays of half eaten food and empty milk cartons spill onto the floor, in the opposite direction of where Lucy landed on the floor. The room is silent.

"Nice going!"

Some other kid shouts, while the room erupts into laughter. My entire body feels frozen over with concern and confusion. Levy and Cana run over to Lucy, Levy helping Lucy stand up, while Cana picks up the trash can. Juvia ran over to grab napkins, and helps wipe the milk off Lucy, while the victim herself stands like a rag doll, supported by her friends. Her face is an empty shell, allowing herself to be carried back to the table, where Mira is now standing on her seat. She glares around the room, before letting out a shrill whistle using her two fingers. If I hadn't been used to that whistle from knowing Mira, I would have jumped to attention and saluted. The rest of the cafeteria shuts up, and eventually minds their own business, but the whispers don't stop. If only Erza was here. She'd make sure everyone would get their own. People probably wouldn't dare laugh.

Supported by Levy, Cana, and Juvia, Lucy sits back down at the table, and everyone else continues eating as if nothing happened. The spell that was cast on me in that instant breaks.

"WHAT THE HELL?" I shout, standing up and looking down at Lucy's fragile state. Every smile, every laugh, every time I've seen Lucy happy or bright flashes before my eyes, reminding me of who Luce actually is. Then I come back to reality, and look down at the result of what just happened. While everyone has the nerve to eat like it didn't happen!!! My chest heaves, as I'm literally fuming.

"Natsu, just sit down," she says in a quiet voice. The anger drains from my eyes as I see her small frown. Apparently, I'M the one acting out here.

"NO! HOW COULD I JUST SIT DOWN AFTER THAT?" I force the anger out into my voice, not caring if other people are watching. "I'M FURIOUS!"

"JUST SIT DOWN, NATSU." Lucy stands up herself, matching my volume. "IT'S NOT LIKE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME!!!!!"

That shuts me up. I look at Luce, into her deep, brown eyes, and feel my breath catch in my throat. "It... it's not?" I think about how quickly Cana and Juvia shot up. Levy's touch of reassurance, or maybe a warning. Even Gray looks sympathetic, but not surprised. I slowly take a seat, but Lucy beats me, embarrassed by her outburst.

I place a hand on her shoulder, "I'm sorry, Luce. I guess I really haven't been there..." Lost in my own thoughts, I miss Lucy's words, followed by her hand wiping her cheek.

"What was that?" I lean closer, desperate to know what she said.

"Nothing. Just... as long as you're here now. Please Natsu, don't leave."

Never...

Hey!!! Ok, I knew from the moment I gave Lisanna her notebook in the first book that it would be some Mean Girls type ish. Also, I hope you listened to the song while reading! Sorry if K-Pop isn't your style, but I personally really like this song, and maybe you could take a look at the translated lyrics :)

Guess what little, abnormally colored friend is coming up? I'm sorry, I know a lot of you will be thinking 'about time!!!!!' <3
