Joan is walking up the road when a thug with a skinhead haircut grabs her and drags her down an alleyway, he pins her to a wall. Joan (startled) - What the hell is this? What do you want? The thug - Relax Ferguson, I only want to give you a friendly warning...Bea Smith sent me to tell you to leave her granddaughter alone. She doesn't know what sort of game you're playing feeding her drugs but it must stop right now Joan looks confused Joan - Granddaughter? I didn't even know she had one The thug shows Joan his flick knife The thug - Are you trying to be smart Ferguson? Bea won't find it very amusing Joan - No I'm serious, I swear I haven't been near her granddaughter, I didn't know anything about her, I didn't know Smith had a granddaughter The thug - According to Smith her granddaughter is hanging out with an older woman called Joan who is supplying her with drugs Joan - Well it's not me, you're threatening the wrong person The thug - Smith is no fool Ferguson, you're out to get back at her and she knows that only too well Joan - Well she's barking up the wrong tree this time The thug - Just accept this warning, ignore it and I'll be back The thug lets Joan go and walks off. They would wear me out every time I saw them but I didn't care, they filled my life with joy....they were such bright little kids too, who knows what they could have made of their lives had they not been so abruptly cut short Brumby has tears in her eyes Brumby - Look I really am sorry I swear it Anita - Maybe you are....but tell me how am I supposed to find a purpose in my life anymore? How am I supposed to carry on living? I just feel empty and dead inside Brumby - Do you hate me? Anita looks her in the eyes Anita - I hate what you did...but do I hate you? I ask myself this question every day. I'm a good Christian woman and the lord says we should forgive and not hold onto anger and hate..but I don't know if I can forgive you for what you have done Brumby - I didn't mean to do it, it was an accident Anita - Young woman I don't doubt that for a second, but the fact is that you did do it. You did it because you're irresponsible and don't want to serve the sentence that the law has handed you right? You were so selfish and desperate to escape that you put your own needs ahead of other people's safety Brumby - Yeah....but what can I do to put it right? Anita - Face up to your actions, and be responsible. Think about others and not just yourself. Show the world you've learned from this and are willing to change, that's all you can do now Anita stands up Anita - And now its time I was leaving Brumby - Don't you have anything else to say? Anita - No nothing more... I just needed to see you. I don't know why but I did. Now I've done that... Brumby - I mean it when I say I'm sorry for what I did and I am being punished for it, I was jailed for life you know Anita - Yes I know you got life and I'm sorry too...sorry that my family had to die so needlessly, sorry that you had to throw your life away with a foolish mistake...
