Our Ugly Pasts

"So tell me about yourself" Mike said to Amy as he opened his soda and took a sip.

Amy thought for a minute and sighed, it was always hurtful to talk about her past especially when she was abandoned by her mom when she was just seven years old.

She looked at him and rubbed her neck a bit "uh, well my parents got divorced when I was 7 years old" she uttered suddenly regretting saying that.

His expression changed and he not directed his full attention to her now.

She shook her head changing her mind "uh, never mind it's nothing important. So tell me about yourself" she tried to divert.

He looked at her "noooo, tell me I'm listening I want to hear" he said trying to make her feel comfortable "I promise I won't judge you" he added.

She just stared and kept quiet. He soon realized she wasn't going to talk soon.

"Here how about this, I'll go first so that way you have my deepest secret, and we'll be even. And you can trust me" he offered and she slightly was swayed "and if this ever gets out you'll have insurance to get me back" he added and chuckled.

She laughed a bit and he smiled "how does that sound?" He arched an eye brow with a slight grin.

She nodded and he smiled fully "alright, great" he said.

He rubbed the back of his neck now feeling nervous as it settled in "umm, h-how do I start" he said.

She looked "hey, you know you don't have to do this. We don't have to talk about stuff like this, let's just talk about school stuff" she suggested.

"No, no I already made you a deal" he said and chuckled.

"So it started a couple years ago, maybe when I was thirteen. My mother passed away" he said and Amy was shocked.

He felt a weird feeling something he hadn't felt before. And all of a sudden he felt like he could talk to her.

"I didn't know how to take it, but my dad didn't take it very well. He feel into depression and soon he strayed from me. Not only me but his social life as well. He wasn't the same anymore" he continued saying.

Amy suddenly felt remorseful she never knew this side of Mike. He was always one of the all high and mighty 'popular kids', so seeing this side of vulnerability was surprising.

"Sometimes I wish I could get my mom back, but now, even my dad. The way he used to be" he looked at her, feeling himself get lost in her eyes for a moment. They both got lost in each other's eyes and a moment of vulnerability filled the space between them.

"But uh!" he quickly interjected "that's all past now, it's you're turn to tell me your deepest secret" he chuckled now turning back to his normal self.

She chuckled slightly "uh yea" she rubbed the side of her neck now feeling the nervous feeling now.

"Um, I guess it's not to bad compared to your story but I can say I have similar feelings to how you felt. My parents separated when I was only seven and my basically abandoned us when we were kids" she said.

"So now it's just been my dad, and he struggles a lot to support us. But he's doing it and I'm very thankful" she cut herself short.

He smiled "hey, don't worry we'll both get through these hard times, right?".

She nodded "and now you have a friend, you can call me anytime you need help" he said.

She was surprised and he smiled bigger this time "you know, you should  feel special. I never told anyone about this" he added showing his vulnerability side again.

She nodded and tapped his hand "you know what I very indeed do" she said playfully lifting the mood again.

He chuckled "you know, you truly are something else, Amy Rose" he said.

She laughed feeling sparks all throughout her body. They both feel back into a tension moment filling the atmosphere around them, but the bell signaling lunch was over rang interrupting them.

They both gathered they're things and Mike turned to her "hey! Um you're going to the party right?" He asked.

She nodded "yea, sure thing" she said.

He smiled "great see you there" he said and she nodded.

They both then parted ways for class. That's when she ran into her friends.

Jackie squealed "oh. My. God. Was that Amy just having lunch over there with Mr. I want you badly" Jackie laughed teasing Amy while moving her body seductively.

Amy felt her face heat up "yea, but that was nothing you guys" she quickly said.

"Nothing my ass" Melina shouted "it means your already hitting first base" Melina also teased her and winked.

Amy rolled her eyes "whatever guys" she laughed "now I actually have to get to class we're gonna end up being late" she said as she moved passed them adjusting her books and walked off.

"Oh she totally knows we're right" Jackie said.

"Totally" Melina replied and they both laughed and followed after.

Lisa just shook her head and also followed after them all.
