Pushing my glasses up my face I walk down the steps slowly. Mom called me and Emanuel down for dinner.

Turns out dad had to remake the meatloaf because mom had burnt the first one, go figure.

I sit in my regular dinner chair my plate already prepared my mouth waters at the sight of meatloaf and mash potatoes with corn. We say grace

And dig in, it's silent as I wait for my mom to ask the question. But instead she says something else.

"I haven't told you this Lydia because I thought you were so young, but your getting older now-" she gets interrupted by Emanuel "Your actually gonna tell her?" He sounds shocked but I punch him in the arm and he winces. "Yes mom?" I say she sighs looking at my father, he nods his head at her putting his hand on hers. What's wrong? My heart immediately starts to beat fast

"Years ago people came here and decided to colonize" I squint my eyes. I'm confused already  "What people?" I ask "Vampires" Emanuel perks up I look at my parents to see if they will disprove his claim and their faces are straight. My mom actually looks scared

"You're serious" my parents were never people to lie none of us were. "Yes, they called it the Raiding" That was what Jayla was talking about. "The reason why you were homeschooled was because of the law the Vampires and the government had made" my mom stops talking she squeezes the table cloth, dad continues for her

"Vampires and humans are allowed to live together, the vampires decided to colonize here because they had said they needed their âme soeur" what? "It's French for soulmate" Emanuel says "They came from England and now they're in America even in the Caribbean because their mates might be there" my father adds on

"Most of the vampires speak French practically all of them that's how you can tell" Emanuel continues "We didn't want any of them trying to take our daughter away from us" my mother cries and my father tried to comfort her

Harry and Louis come to mind. Could they be Vampires. "Your quiet" my mom says wiping her tears "When Emanuel found out he had an anxiety attack and fainted"

"I just can't believe this" I shake my head toying with my food. "Well believe it alright, they suck blood and eat humans,ok? Why don't you think mom never let you watch the news or tv even?" Emanuel says

Adding it together it all makes sense now.

"So you kept me homeschooled because of that?" I say harshly to my mom and dad. She flinches at my tone "I stayed cooped up for no reason" I finish Emanuel slams his hand on the table. Making me cower in my chair

"They did this for your own good, they kill people, hurt people, left them dying on the street, and their protecting you if you would have went to school I guarantee you would've been dead right now, or in some bloodsuckers home where he would have raped you! SO DON'T HAVE A FUCKING ATTITUDE!" he yells in my face I look down tears falling rapidly. How selfish I'm being, their trying to protect me  "I'm so sorry mom" she sighs and gives me a hug as I sob into her chest "Do you have anything to tell us?" I nod my head wiping my face

I tell her about the ring and the first day of school I even tell her about what happened an hour ago "He found his soulmate" my mom tells my father "Hell no! My daughter will not leave and spend the rest of her life being a blood bag to some filthy man with no self control" he leaves the table "Why?" Emanuel groans from beside me "Why did you take the ring?" He mutters shaking his head

"I don't know, they didn't want to take it back and Harry-" mom gasps "He even told you about himself"

"So what does this mean? I'm still so confused" Emanuel shakes his head "It means that Vampire found his mate, and you're her"
