Chapter Seven

Abby had been right about Bennett Dean not making any more appearances at The Harbour Room. Weeks went by and Emma did not see him once. For the most part it was okay, because it allowed her to find her feet and learn the ropes of this high end establishment.

She absolutely loved working here. Although she was still finding it quite difficult to get along with the other staff, the female ones especially, she was not letting that dampen her spirits.

Seth was great, and he really helped Emma out. Any questions she had or difficulties, Seth was always there to lend a hand. Emma even met his girlfriend Harmony one night and she was very friendly.

The clientele here were extremely upper class and did not suffer fools gladly. Emma tried her hardest when working behind the bar to get every order correct, and had even spent two full days at a cocktail making course paid for by the Dean's.

Tonight she was due at work at The Harbour Room, and also had a day shift at Rock's Deli. She was so glad she managed to keep her job with Johnny at Rock's, it would have disappointed her had she had to give it up.

When she arrived at The Harbour Room ten minutes early, Seth immediately pounced.

"Emma! I need your help," He grabbed her shoulders.

"What's wrong?" Emma asked, surprised. What on Earth was going on?

"Tiger Bar is low on staff tonight. Three guys have called in sick. It's Saturday and it's going to be packed out. I've already managed to get two casual's in, but I'm desperate for the third. Would you be willing to work over there tonight? I'll drive you there myself," He was indeed desperate.

Emma shrugged. "Sure, no problem," she honestly was happy to help out. Especially since Seth had been nothing but good to her.

"Thankyou, you're a lifesaver. Wait here, I'll go get my keys,"

Emma watched him rush off and avoided looking around. Eye contact with these bunch of people was a no no for her.

Tiger Bar was located in Soho in Lower Manhattan. It was not a very long drive, but in New York traffic, it was going to take forever.

Emma settled in the seat of Seth's old Dodge. Traffic on seventh avenue at Times Square was already at a standstill.

"It's okay, it doesn't matter what time you turn up, as long as your there before the rush starts," Seth sounded as though he was trying to calm himself down, instead of Emma.

She smiled. "Okay, Seth,"

They were silent as they crawled through the street. Emma stared outside at the hundreds of people walking past the shops and eateries.

"So, um Bennett took you home the other week?" Seth's question bought about the flood of nerves she had since gotten over. It was strange that he was bringing this up now, after so many weeks had gone by.

Emma continued to look outside. "Yeah, he did."

She could tell he was studying her. "No big deal for you, huh?"

Emma gave him a small smile which didn't touch her eyes. "Should it have been?"

"He has never given any staff member a ride home. He has never even so much as smiled at a staff member before. You got both on your first night on the job." Seth answered. The small flow in traffic meant he could speed up just a little.

Emma stared down at her hands, and found she was fidgeting. Talking about Bennett Dean did make her nervous.

"Well, look. He drove me home, said goodnight and left. It really wasn't a big deal at all. He was on a phone call for most of the ride home anyway," Emma replied.
