"a new leaf is unfolding.."
She was trembling. I could feel it. With each button I fastened, and as my fingers brushed against her skin, I could tell she was nervous, or anxious, maybe both. And I couldn't help smiling. This was a moment I would never forget. More importantly, it was one she would never forget.
"Okay." I broke the silence that filled the room with blatant heaviness. Stepping back, I allowed her to turn around. And when she did, the breath was knocked right out of me. I've seen her face already, her flawless makeup, how pronounced it made her eyes look. However, those particular eyes were currently watering. I wasn't sure if this was a good sign or not. "Mom, what's wrong?" I inquired gently. I couldn't wrap my mind around how impeccable she looked.
"I'm scared," She uttered, her voice breaking in the process. She then held her head back for a second and she blinked more times than I could keep count of. It was obvious that she was trying to keep the tears from falling. When her gaze met mine again, she smiled a weak one. "There's this fluttery feeling in the pit of my stomach that I can't explain and I ju-"
I shook my head, silencing her. I knew this was just the pre-wedding jitters. It was common. "Mom, look at your ring." I politely instructed her. She nodded for half of a second before looking down at one of the most beautiful diamonds to ever grace this world. "What comes to mind when you look at it?"
She smiled before uttering her soon to be husband's name. "Zen."
"And, when you think about Zen.. what else comes to mind?"
"Happiness."
"Exactly. And mom, believe me when I say I've never seen you this happy. Sure, there are times when you, Sarah and I are together and we're having an amazing time. But, that's with us. I'm talking about as an individual, I've never seen this glow that you possess right now," I proved my point by cupping her cheeks lightly, not wanting to ruin her makeup. "I've never seen you smile and laugh so much. God, I have never seen you just sit and stare into space and then all of a sudden a full blown smile is on your face. Not even a second later, you start yapping about Zen." I said and she laughed. I could also feel her cheeks getting warm as I still held onto them.
"There's a man out there, in that church, waiting for that wedding song to start playing, so he can finally lay eyes on his beautiful bride and fall in love all over again." I smiled at her and she returned it, making my heart beat faster in my chest. Both Zen and my mother didn't understand how happy they made one another. Or maybe, they do. But I just knew that all of this was so right, it was meant to be.
"Hey, mom, sis, it's time." That was Zac and he obviously forgot how to knock.
I turned to face him with a playful glare. "You're suppose to be in place."
"Uh, so are you. Zero's looking lonelier than that hobo across from school." Zac retorted in a smart tone.
"Wouldn't Cat be looking the same way?" I smirked triumphantly when his face dropped. "Where's grandpa?"
"That's a darn good question." Mom piped, placing her hand on her hip.
"Grandpa to the rescue!" The door was pushed open some more, revealing the man in question. I grinned, thinking about how similar he and mom were.
