The fever

Warm. So warm. Too warm. Hot. Too hot. Burning. Burning. Fire. Fire!

I lurch forward and gasp for air frantically looking around for the source of the blaze. But there is no fire. No smoke. No heat.

I'm in the green room. The one that was meant for the hulk.

Why am I in here?

I try to get up and flinch. My legs feel numb, but my knees ache, and are badly bruised. I poke my left knee, and hiss at the pain.

"You know it's a bruise. Don't poke it." A familiar voice says, and I glare in its direction.

"Why am I here? What did you do to me?" I growl at Banner, who is slightly guarding Natasha from my sight. "You're a liar, Tasha. You knew my parents. You were there that night you-" I clutch my side as a searing pain crawls up my ribs.

"Listen, Fenna. I know you're upset, but let us explain!" Banner holds his hands up, as if to ward me off. Don't they know I can't do anything from here?

"I'm listening."

"You've been running a fever for a couple of days, and you were getting better- your temperature was stabilizing- but then the other day you got upset at Natasha and your fever spiked. You became violent and disorientated, and when we tried to calm you down, you passed out. We ran some tests, and even though you're temp has stayed at 138 Fahrenheit for three days, it hasn't damaged your organs. At all. Normally, that would- for lack of a better word- cook you." He pauses, and looks at me. "We think you might not be completely normal, so to speak."

I sit there, and try to think. I don't feel like I have a fever, and if I did, they would try to cool me down, right?

"That still doesn't explain why I'm in here." I say, looking at my hands, and notice my nails are chipped.

"We were... concerned... that when you came to, you would still be disorientated, and we didn't want anyone to get hurt. Including yo-"

"Why do I have bruises on my knees?"

Neither of them answers.

"Interesting." I mumble to myself, and try again to stand up. I stagger forward and then gain my balance. "Well, I'm not disorientated, and I feel fine. Can you let me out now? I need to take a shower."

They both glance at each other, and then nod.

"You can take a shower, but for your safety, I'll be in the room with you, in case anything unexpected happens." Natasha says, extremely business like.

What!?! I can't even shower alone? Wow.

"Fine."
