Chapter 6

Zeke

"We got here and waited half an hour. We're on a schedule. Every minute counts" Piper scolded me. I smiled, wrapping my arms around her, making her rant stop. "I missed you" she said softly, her arms tightening around me.

I smiled, pulling away from my sister. "I missed you too. Kinda" I stated. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "You and Caleb aren't exactly secretive when you're trying to conceive. Caroline and Nick are at least quiet" I informed her.

She scrunched her face up and lightly shoved my shoulder. "That's not fair. Their walls are soundproof" Piper whined.

I made my hand 'talk' as I mocked her. She shoved me harder, causing me to laugh. I walked around, greeting everyone who showed up. There was Caleb, Mason, Piper, Grams, Sam, Kat, Amanda, and Liam. "Toby stayed home because Mandy wasn't feeling well" Caleb informed me.

Kat piped in. "I think she's pregs" The air changed. It felt gloomy. Everyone glanced at Piper as her shoulders slumped.

Caleb wrapped an arm around her shoulder and kissed her temple. "Don't be sad. If you don't get pregnant, that just means we can keep trying" he stated. Everyone made groans of disgust as Piper giggled. "So" Caleb started slowly. "We heard that you saved a girl today" a small smile appeared on his face.

I rolled my eyes, shooting Nick a deadly look. He put his hands up before slowly backing away. "I didn't save her" I said, still glaring at Nick whilst my sister was awing over the situation.

"So where is this girl? Is she your mate?" Kat blurted out. I shook my head, not saying anything. "She has to be your mate. You're getting all defensive and stuff" she stated.

Groaning, I ran my hand down my face. "She is not my mate and I'm not being defensive. I'm simply correcting your statement" I told the bunch. The girls and Sam pouted. "I'm not focused on that. You guys know that a mate isn't something I want right now" I reminded them.

They sadly nodded their heads. "You!" we all froze and turned to the sound of the voice. A small blonde girl was marching towards us. "You!" she jabbed a finger in my chest as she slightly tilted her head up to look at me. "Are you the new Beta?" she asked. I nodded my head, raising an eyebrow at the short girl. She looked a few years younger than me. She shoved me while glaring at me. But it just amused me how she was trying to be intimidating. "You stay away from my sister. I don't care that you're a Beta. You stay away from her" she marched away, towards the pack house.

I looked at Nick, raising an eyebrow and glancing in the direction of the girl. "That would be Ashlyn's sister" he answered my unasked question. I nodded in understanding. They do kinda look alike. Ashlyn is taller; which makes sense since she's older. "I'm gonna go check on her" he stated.

Shaking my head, I told him not to. "I'll go. I was gonna check on Ashlyn's arms anyway. Just keep them out of the pack house. I don't need them blabbering to everyone about me and my mate- who I didn't find. And I'm not even looking" I added quickly.

Before they could say anything, I jogged into the pack house and up to my floor. "It was his fault that you were out there!" I listened to the voice of Ashlyn's little sister. "You said he's not your mate, but you're defending him! It's his fault that you're all scratched up!" she exclaimed.

I heard Ashlyn sigh. "Didn't you tell Mom and Dad to go home? Why are you at the pack house?" the older sister questioned.

"I didn't tell them to go home" Ashlyn's sister said. "They just showed up. I came over here when I heard" she stated.

Walking into the room, I was greeted with a glare and a smile. You can imagine who gave what. I walked over to the bed, softly smiling at Ashlyn. "I just came to check on the cuts" I told her.
