Chapter 27

Zeke

I was sitting in the kitchen with Ashlyn, Leia, Liam, Sharon, and Thalia. Thalia had cooked us breakfast, so we were all eating. Valerie was still upstairs, doing God knows what. She kinda kicked me out, since I was complaining about her taking long to get ready for breakfast. But at least she didn't wake up cranky this morning. "Are you sure you should leave tomorrow? Your arm just healed" Thalia asked Liam, looking at him with concern.

He shrugged and stretched his arm out. "It feels fine. I would just be driving anyway. It won't put any strain on me" he assured her. Thalia hesitantly nodded her head. "So Zeke. Did you get laid last night?" Liam asked bluntly.

Ashlyn choked on her food and Leia patted her back, trying not to laugh. Sharon slapped her mate's arm and scolded him about privacy. "No" I answered plainly before continuing to eat.

I heard footsteps and Valerie emerged from the doorway. There was a smile on her face as she practically skipped over to us. "Morning!" she chirped. She kissed my cheek before grabbing a plate from Thalia. "Thank you!" Valerie plopped down next to me and greeted everyone at the table.

Her sister's eyes were bulging out of her head. "Who are you and what have you done to my sister?" Ashlyn blurted. Valerie laughed, but didn't answer. "So you guys didn't mate, but-" Ashlyn inhaled deeply. "Well you won't get castrated for marking her" she pointed out.

I nodded in understanding as Thalia began ranting about marking. She was saying something about it being a big step or whatever. Not wanting to interrupt her talking, I mind-linked Valerie. "What took you so long? Were you snooping in my underwear drawer?" I teased.

Her hand reached over to jab my side. "I was looking at my mark. You stupid vampire" she informed me.

Biting my lip, I stopped myself from laughing out loud. Only Valerie would call a werewolf a vampire. "You bit me too" I reminded her. I was seriously not expecting it. I knew she would mark me, but I didn't know that it would feel like that. It's unexplainable. It was like a tinge of pain before it felt like I was just offered a life-supply of Oreos. The happiest, most pleasing, and most anticipating feeling ever.

"Stop thinking about it. It's making me- yeah. And my sister is at the table" I couldn't hold in my laugh as she skipped over the word that rhymes with corny. Everyone stared at us. "You two weren't sex-linking were you?" Leia questioned.

Ashlyn gagged. "I lost my appetite" she muttered. I laughed as Leia just took her plate and began eating it. "Wait! I want the bacon!" Ashlyn snatched the meat off her plate and began munching on it.

"I was wondering" Sharon's hesitant voice said softly. I looked at her and gave her an encouraging smile. "I figured you and Liam won't see each other for awhile. So if you wanted to, you guys can go hang out or something. If you two can manage to be apart" she said, looking at Valerie now.

My mate bit her lip as she pushed her food around on her plate. I could feel her nervousness. She didn't like the thought of me not being with her. "A couple hours would work" I said slowly. I wanted to spend some time with Liam and Sam. I know Sam definitely needs some guy time. Sharon smiled and began talking about what time we would be going. But I wasn't really listening. Valerie was bummed out. "It's a few hours. We'll be back before you know it" I mind-linked her.

She didn't respond as she continued playing with her food. I sighed and ate mine. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of an appetite with Valerie's sadness eating away at me. The food looked good and I really wanted to eat. So the fact that I couldn't was pissing me off. Valerie abruptly stood up and ran upstairs. Everyone stopped talking and stared at me. Sighing, I began to stand too. "Sit, sweetheart. I'll go talk to her" Thalia said softly.
