March 18, 2016: Requested by Greasergirl4life. Thanks for patiently waiting!

You (Shelby) have something to tell Kili, but you're worried about how he's going to react to it.

Shelby nervously played with the hem of her shirt. As she waited for Kili to return from the night watch, Shelby thought about what she was going to say.

Chuckling at her own nervousness, she tried to recount the time they spent together whilst trying to reclaim Erebor. The thought of their fireside conversations, stolen glances, and pranks they pulled on the other dwarves and Bilbo made Shelby less anxious.

Shelby heard the door from the courtyard open and raised her head to see Kili slowly sauntering toward her.

He lifted his arms and stretched. "Ah, why do the night watches tire me so?"

"You're getting too old," Shelby laughed, and Kili sat down beside her.

She took a deep breath and prepared herself for the conversation she was going to have with Kili. "Kili?"

He turned to face her. "Yes?"

"We're going to have-" Shelby started but didn't feel like she could tell him now, so she prolonged the conversation. "We're going to have to... have to... redo the spare bedroom."

Kili closed his eyes and nodded mindlessly, tired from working.

She continued, slowly speaking, "And we're going to have to throw a party."

He again nodded, and asked, "Who doesn't like a party?"

Shelby sighed, as she knew Kili wasn't truly listening. Kili stood up and headed to leave for your bedroom. "You have good plans, Shelby. I'll make sure to redo the spare bedroom and throw a party for your birthday. I'm heading off to bed."

"Wait, Kili!" She called after him.

"What?"

"I don't know if it's a boy or girl yet, but you should still paint the spare room green."

Kili scratched his head. "Okay."

How dense is he? she thought.

He looked at me in a weird way, and took my hand in his. "You should go to sleep. Nothing you are saying is making sense."

Shelby sighed. I guess I'll tell him when he's fully awake.

Kili's POV

By the time Shelby's eyes fluttered shut, I had made up my mind to leave quickly. Quietly opening the door, I tiptoed out of the room.

I'm going to be a father.

I had known what she was trying to tell me from her odd, vague comments since the beginning, but I played along.

Wandering through the halls of Erebor, I took extra care not to wake anyone up. Well, everyone except for my dear uncle, Thorin.

I knocked on his door softly. When I didn't hear I response, I hit my fist on it. "Uncle, it's Kili," I whispered loudly.

Thorin opened the after a couple of moments and an annoyed look was plastered across his face. "What?" he asked with gritted teeth.

I just stood there, slightly laughing at him.

"Do you have any idea what time it is, Kili? If you're just going to stand there, then I'm-"

"Oh, I guess you don't want to help me with something for my first unborn child." I said nonchalantly.

Thorin's demeanor completely changed, and then he hit me on top of the head. "Why didn't you tell me Shelby was pregnant?"

"Ow! Uncle, she doesn't even think I know about it. She avoided telling me about directly, so I acted like I didn't know," I said.

"Why would you do that?" he questioned.

I shrugged. "I wanted to surprise her with something. Are you helping or not?"

Third Person POV

Shelby woke up the next morning to see that Kili's side of the bed was empty.

She stretched and walked toward the window to draw back the curtains. Taking in the sunlight, Shelby happily turned around only to see Kili leaning against the door frame with a smile on his face.

She instinctively jumped and placed her hand over her heart.

"Kili!" she yelled.

He just smiled. "Morning, beautiful."

Shelby raised an eyebrow. "What do you want?"

"Nothing, let's take a walk."

Kili then grasped your hand and took pulled you with him to start walking to the courtyard.

"Wait, don't I need to change?" Shelby asked.

"You're fine. Let's go," he said, still gently tugging Shelby, urging her to hurry.

Smiling at the enthusiasm of Kili, they both headed down the stairs.

Shelby started talking as he opened the door. "Why are you-"

She was speechless as a small baby crib came into sight. It was wooden and had a heart carved onto it.

Kili led Shelby closer to the crib to get a better look at it.

"Kili," she said, feeling overwhelmed with emotions.

He smiled brilliantly, like he always did. "You don't have to say anything, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm happy to welcome a baby into our lives."

At that moment in time, Shelby wondered why she was even the slightest bit nervous to tell him in the first place. He was going to make a wonderful father, and they'd make it work, no matter how difficult it seemed at times.
