A few hours later, night had arrived. Zion had gathered extra bed sheets and fashioned what she thought would possibly make Kanda's stay a little bit easier.

Lavi had dragged Xael away, despite her resistance. They went to the cafeteria car to get food and bring it back for the four of them.

So, Zion quietly approached an irritated Japanese man, his arms folded over his chest as he uncomfortably leaned across a chair -- which was most likely what he justified as where he would sleep for the trip.

"Zi..." He trailed when he looked at her gentle smile. It was a new nickname that had developed after the girl had continued to complain about the previous one.

"I'm sorry that this trip is bothersome for you."

Kanda snorted.

"But I'm not gonna let you sleep out here in the uncomfortable chairs."

"And what are you gonna do about it?" He hummed, his face still stoic.

"C'mere." She gestured.

He didn't protest, quietly following the girl back to their sleeping quarters. He was confused when he saw what she had done, until she explained.

"I made a little anti-social Kanda fort." She teased. Bed sheets hung from her bunk over Kanda's bed, shielding the mattress from anything outside of it.

He released a short laugh, a smirk stretching over his lips momentarily. He draped his muscular arm over her shoulders and tugged the brunette closer. "You're a dork."

"Thanks." She was beaming, knowing that he was showing his appreciation in the strange way that he did.

"Why did I have to come with you? You're more than capable of carrying this stuff on your own." Xael whined, carrying two packaged meals.

"I know." Lavi hummed.

"Then why the heck am I here?"

"You don't want to be a third wheel between those two. And I'm a lot more fun." He sung happily, effortlessly balancing another two meals.

Xael raised a dark brow, eyeing the taller man suspiciously. "Wouldn't you want to take every opportunity to get between them?" She had thought that she made her own, logical conclusions. But it seemed that she was wrong.

"Why is that? That's just rude."

"Says you." She scoffed. "Don't you have a thing for Zion?"

Lavi chuckled. "Where'd you get that idea?"

"Uh, it seems kind of obvious."

He looked up, seeming genuine for the first time since the new Exorcist had met him. "Sure, our little Zion is a beauty, but I was never really into her. If anything, I want to help her and Yu get closer." He laughed again. "They're both probably the most naive and innocent Exorcists in terms of romance."

Although she believed him, she rolled her eyes. "Something tells me that you aren't the best for relationship advice."

"Oh, have a little faith in me."

"If I find that you're reliable, then maybe I'll have faith in you."

"That can be arranged." He hummed thoughtfully, making a curious expression.

Her brown eyes narrowed. "You're pretty sketchy."

"Maybe I am." He puffed out his chest confidently.
