It was thunder-storming the next day, offering the Exorcists nothing to do besides train and watch movies. Seen as they were almost done with their long boat trip, Zion felt it was the best time to enforce the responsibilities that Chief Komui had given her.
In their private gym, all four of them sat in a circle. Each had their legs folded except for Lavi, who lazily stretched them in the middle of the circle. Zion had a notebook that she placed in front of her. "Since we actually have a four-person team, we can actually use battle strategies." She explained, a glimmer of excitement in her hazel eyes. "Our odds are already so much higher than if we only had two or even three Exorcists."
"Thanks." Kanda snorted sarcastically, referencing that he usually was the brunette's only companion and partner for missions.
"No offense." She hummed half-heartedly.
"Offense taken."
She rolled her eyes jokingly and returned to the more serious topic. "I think, because there are increasing numbers of Akuma, we'll never really know how many we will have to face at any given time. Not to mention Komui wasn't exactly specific with the description of the mission..." She trailed. "Anyway! I think that in most situations we should split into groups of two. There are three ways we can do this:
"First is the more obvious option; we could split by range and weapon type. Which would mean Kanda and I, and Lavi and Xael would be partners -"
"I vote for that one." Kanda interrupted, not waiting to hear the rest.
"That's a given." Lavi commented.
"There are still other ideas." Zion tried to return to seriousness. "The other is that we could split up by opposite ranges. For example, long or medium range with close range. And this could go Xael and I, and Lavi and Kanda; or it could be Lavi and I, and Xael and Kanda."
"I like option one." Xael piped.
"Aw, that's just because you want to be with me." Lavi hummed flirtatiously.
"Sure, that's it." The dark-haired girl rolled her eyes.
"In all seriousness, I think option one is best. Xael and I can be like mysterious assassins in the shadows." The red-haired boy said, growing more dramatic with each word.
"Okay..." Zion trailed, realizing that her organizational efforts were going to be futile with this group. "Looks like we're going with option one."
"By the way," Lavi began and wriggled a thick brow. "Xael can fight close combat, too."
"What?! No, I can't!" Xael's voice squeaked as her cheeks became red.
"We've been training this entire trip. That's three weeks of me teaching you." He reasoned.
"That doesn't mean I'm good at it!"
"I think you're good at it."
"I'm not!"
Zion then chimed, "You're in the long or medium range pairing, so it's not a big deal if you're not comfortable with it. Leave the close combat for Kanda and I."
"Loser." Xael huffed at Lavi.
"I'm just looking out for you." He hummed.
---------------
"Guys! Hey!" Zion shouted to her fellow Exorcists on the sundeck. Her excitement was obvious in her eyes. "Look!"
The other three looked at her and followed her hand to where she was pointing. Not too far before them, mountains pierced the clouds, an entire two islands coming into their vision.
