Seven days. A whole week. Even though since we all pitched in five days ago, we all had false hope. "You're so funny!" I heard Cara giggle. When she came, the moment Carter saw her, he was speechless. To be honest, it was kinda cute. He stuttered his name and blushed and everything. Young love. Ha. I was sitting on the couch in sweats because we all decided to take a break and have a movie night. Aunt Sheila wasn't so sure about it considering, there were only three girls and way more guys. We convinced her though simply because, what if we don't change and we all go dark. That finally got her to shut her mouth. She was going out to visit her old friend so Craig was in charge. Savannah looked nervous when Logan sat down next to her, on the floor we made into a huge bed. But what was weird was that Aaron sat on the opposite couch next to Ezra. They barely get along, why would he sit over there and not by me? I mean I didn't care but still. We decided to watch Aladdin first. Every time Savannah and I watch it, we always make jokes, only this time she was with Logan. So that didn't happen. But what I did notice was that Logan and Savannah were slowly- almost awkwardly getting closer to each other. Mason is sitting next to me and I could tell his temper would be out soon. He caught my glance, "Can we talk?" He whispered. I nodded, I glanced at Aaron. I could tell he heard what Mason said but just stayed focused on the movie. When we got outside it was colder than I remembered. Mason immediately gave me a jacket. "Is this about Savannah?" I asked him. He had his glasses on, which made him look like a little five year old. Maybe it was his pajamas, they have cars scattered across them. He finally find his voice which sounded like he just woke up. "What did I do?" He sounded broken, I've never heard Mason sound this broken except for when I recovered from the dark spell Bobby's family put on me. "You two will never be like you used to be. You do realize that?" He nodded. "I don't know Mason, maybe she was tired of the way you acted. Maybe she knew that the arrogant guy you became wasn't the real you. Maybe she got fed up with that guy. Maybe she just wanted the little old Mason, the one who talked about flying cars and how pretty the sky looked." I told him what everyone was tired of. I'm sure he doesn't care about that though, all he seemed to care about was Savannah and her opinion. He sat down in a old plastic lawn chair. I was scared it was going to break. "Maybe I'm becoming my dad. I mean from what I remember, he used to treat my mom like shit. They'd always get in arguments and I remember I tried to run away before. My mom told me to grow up because life isn't fair." I shook my head. "If anything that should make you not want to turn out like that. Just be a better person because sorry won't do." I was bad at advice. But I was honest and I think he appreciated that. "My best friend wants to get with the girl I lo-." He cut himself off. My eyes went wide. I mean I figured but I never, I mean ever think Mason would admit to such a thing. It just wasn't in his nature. Mason was such an asshole you would expect him to go bad. "Mason." I trailed off. He looked angry. "You know I should regret that. But I don't. You know the only reason I even got with Lexi was just to see how Savannah would react. I wanted to see if I had the jealously affect just like she had on me. She doesn't know she has it but everyone else does. I don't think I can do this anymore. Kate, I've been hiding for so long it's unreal." He keeped his voice down but firm. I feel he's been hiding more than just that though. "Is there anything else you've been hiding?" I asked him slowly. His eyes had a look in them. Mischief and guilt. He nodded. He didn't say anything though and I was getting frustrated. "That. That right there. That's why she's mad at you. That's why she can't even look at you anymore." My voice was firm and clear. "What do you mean?" He stood up. "I think you know exactly what I mean Mason. You never hid secrets from us. From her. You two told each other everything and then you slowly made yourself secluded. So how about you spill. Spill everything now. I don't care what it's about Mason she needs to know." I left him there with his thoughts but he knew I'd be back with Savannah in about three seconds. I dragged her outside. I told Logan to stay out of her head until we're done. When she saw Mason she tried to turn around but I blocked and took her wand. "Savannah, I have some things to tell you." Mason started to stay but his voice got quieter. She nodded as for him to continue. "I've been working underground." Savannah and I made a confused face. Underground? So many things, so little time. "Explain." Was all she said. "The main reason Nolan attacked me that night was because, someone requested for me to make him exposed. The underground isn't the nicest place but it gets me money. Someone comes to see me and gives me money and I do what they ask." Money? Why would Mason need money? "So basically, you're a hit man of some sort." Savannah said slowly. He nodded. "Why do you even need money Mason?" I asked him. And Savannah looked as if that statement caught her off guard. He sighed. Another secret. "I wanna leave. Sure New York is great but I wanna go somewhere else. I mean I could use magic but I'm not the smartest when it comes to those things. I was saving my money up and studying. Magic can't do everything." He wanted to leave. Mason wanted to leave. But why? New York was beautiful. "You were going to leave us this whole time and you didn't even bother to tell us?! Or the fact that you're working underground. You might as well be a drug dealer." She said getting angry. I couldn't blame her. I was kinda getting pissed as well. "No. I was going to ask you two if you want to come along. You know just like how we all did before we came here. Before Aunt Sheila and Craig and Ezra." I shook my head. "You know I love New York. There was no way I'm leaving." "What else Mason?" Savannah asked. He sighed. "I know who Henry Hale is and there's no way any of the halfies can win." My breath caught my throat. Savannah gasped and the door opened and out came the brothers and Aaron. I feel like my throat was on fire and no matter how much water you put on it, it would still burn. "What's going on?" "Mason, you knew this whole time? You didn't have the balls to tell Kate or your friends?" Logan asked looking even more pissed. Mason rolled his eyes. "Like if I knew they were halfies and that Henry Hale had anything to do with it." He sassed back. Carter grabbed Logan's shoulder to pull him back. Logan, even though shorter than Mason, has way more muscle than Mason. He looked like he was going to hit him. By then I realized how much of a good friend Logan was. In a way, in all the years I've known Mason, Logan has had our back more. "Well maybe if you payed attention and stopped acting like a dick all the time you would know. We could of been ahead of this!" Logan yelled. "It wouldn't matter! Halfies have no chance to save their fate. Henry is too powerful!" Mason said clenching his fists. "How do you even know Henry Hale?" Carter asked calmly. "I-I well- He controls the underground." Mason said almost shamefully. Almost. Then and there I knew. Mason was dark. He was concealed by the idea that Henry Hale could get him out. Out of this town. Out of his heart. The main reason Mason wanted to leave was because, he couldn't stand to watch Savannah not love him back. It all made sense. "Why?" It came out as a whisper. But I knew he heard me. He shook his head. "You know exactly why." Savannah looked confused and sad. "Did I miss something?" Mason eyes became angry. "No. How about you worry about your boyfriend. It shouldn't matter what I do anyways. You stopped caring a while ago." He said all of it in a disgusted voice. Like he was spitting out poison. Spitting it all on us and making us hurt and sick. So, this is what it looks like being dark. I mean Bobby had a quarter of it. Mason was almost full. He only had a little hope. He was fighting against it. "Mason you've been my best friend since the beginning. He's not my boyfriend and I didn't stop caring. I just stopped reacting." Logan decided to jump in which wasn't the best idea. "Yeah, we're not dating and I wouldn't touch her without your permission." Mason rolled his eyes and I did too. We all knew that was a lie. "Really? You started talking to her knowing my feelings! You didn't care!" Mason was furious. "Well you knew I liked her too! I asked and you were so busy with Lexi, you didn't even notice Savannah was hurt! So I took your place! Get over it! It's not like you two would've happened anyways!" Logan screamed right back. I'm sure the people below could hear all of this but they didn't care. They had their own problems. Mason just nodded his head and said, "Tell Aunt Sheila, I'm out of here by morning. Thanks for everything. You guys got me to where I am now." I was expecting Savannah to look at him and tell him to stop or at least shed a tear. But she just looked at Logan and she was right. She just stopped reacting. Mason just walked away like he never knew any of us and just walked into the wrong house. I couldn't let him walk away. I mean he's the reason I even know Aunt Sheila and all these people around me. "Wait! Mason!" I ran after him. When I walked into his room, he was gone. Everything was neat. Mason's room was never neat. There was a note on the bed. Kate, I know I'm dark, but if you ever need anything, I'll always have your back. I'll always have all of you guy's back. But until we meet again, thank you. -Mason Walker. If there was one thing I could change at this moment, it would definitely be wishing none of this shit happen. He thanked me. I had done nothing. Shit, me and Mason always argued but, he was right about the part of having our back. After all, he did owe me for saving his ass against Hoff the vampire. We finished watching the movies like nothing even happened. Savannah and Logan were cuddled up. While I was between Nathaniel and Aaron, which were stuffing their faces with marshmallows. Cara was fast asleep on Carter's lap. While Ezra had a Barry stuff animal look alike between his arms as he was slightly snoring. I couldn't let anyone else walk away.
