Desperation
Ace
Midnight came faster than
I expected. I had already
packed some clothes into
a large grocery bag, and
now all I had to do was wait.
I heard a weird rapping at
my window, so I turned around.
Come on, girlie. I can’t just
wait around forever for you.
Crawl out this window, now
or you’re not coming with
me. We’ll find somewhere
that we can go. Somewhere
nice, where we can work under
the radar.Summer grinned at
me like she was totally mad.
“Sure,” I whispered, grabbing
my grocery sack of clothes. I
crawled onto the window sill
once I had successfully slid the
window open. I slid my body out.
I looked at Summer. “Where’s
your clothes?”
She grinned at me, pulling out
a bag from behind the bush. It
had at least a week’s worth of
clothing in it. Right here in
this bag. You didn’t think I was
stupid enough to go without
any changes of clothes, right?
I just grinned sheepishly at her.
“Well, come on now, hon. We
gotta get out of here ASAP.”
“Right.” The two of us ran out
into the cold night, hoping that
we would make it to a bus stop
to get a ride somewhere else
other than this place.
