 A Different Kind of Sugar 

Jack 

The scenery changed 

as we got into 

Texas. It felt a 

lot dryer than a lot of 

the places tha- 

t I’d been to 

before. I felt Austin’s 

entire energy 

change when 

we entered the state, 

but I couldn’t 

figure out why. 

The cars flew by us. 

Justin turned 

to me. Hey, I 

want to show you 

something 

really cool. I 

think that you’ll 

like it a lot, 

Jack. 

I wondered what he

meant by that

as he pulled

off the highway and

onto a bumpy,

old gravel road.

Looking out around me,

I saw the fields

of wild grass

engulf us, where it

almost felt like

I was in a sea

of nothing but grass.

He told me to

shut my eyes.

After the bumping and

bouncing of

riding on the

gravel road, he told me

to open my

eyes when we

stopped. I saw a pretty

little lake in

front of the truck

along with what felt like

an endless

amount of trees

surrounding it. It looked

really nice for

a small lake.

here a lot

when I'm getting a

lot of grief

either at

home or at my job.
